I was watching Parasite Lost just now (yeah yeah, I was on a business trip and my tivo got backed up) and realized Leela said "can I axe you something?", ala Xmas Story. I believe I've heard "axe" used once or twice before. If it was used consistently, I tip my hat to the writers; good job turning a one-time obvious joke into a subtle running joke for the fans. But does anybody remember a character using the archaic "ask" instead of "axe"? (Fry is exempt for obvious reasons)

that's in Xmas Story, when Fry said "Christmas" instead of "Xmas", then Leela told him he was using an archaic word to pronounce "Xmas" ...just like "ask" instead of "axe" ;-)
Yep, it's the explanation for why they say X-mas instead of Christmas. Apparently, since Jesus is a zombie, they don't feel the need to "keep Christ in Christmas" anymore. ;)
