I'd already seen the subject line too, but my wife hadn't. She picked up on it pretty early - after seeing the two cyclops mutants peering out of the sewer hole at the side of the street (at the latest).

Well, my husband and I had figured it out as soon as we had seen both the sewer mutant woman come out in the wedding dress and the flashback scene to her arrival both happened - during the commercial break, we realized that we were reminded of the presence of mutants for a specific reason and figured out the rest from there. It made the rest of the episode drag a bit since it seemed like the writers thought that we wouldn't "get it" until we saw the corrected flashback, despite the many obvious and labored hints ("The river is harmless to us, we mutants won't change!")

I'd say even the average viewer not aware of the show's history or the general traditions of tv-show narrative would "get" Leela's origins by the time they were all hanging above the ooze and Leela saw the cloaked figures in the background.
