How come, instead of acting out the missing 'Single Female Lawyer' scene, didn't the crew just fly out 1000 light years, and record the missing transmission from a rerun! :)
That would also be an easy way of retrieving old TV shows whose tapes had been lost.

If you mean going not as far out (maybe 999 light years) to where they may have re-broadcast the same episode... I don't think they can travel that far. They didn't know the Omicronians existed so they may not be able to jump out that far in a few days. The Omicronians, on the other hand, obviously have the superior technology to do so.
And there's always the argument that the show wouldn't have been as funny had they not recorded the last episode themselves. :)

Since the transmission would by then be dispersed around a sphere 1000 light years in radius, the signal would be very weak. The Omicronians must have a very good antenna. I don't know if the Earth has an antenna that good.
