See now, stuff like last night's episode ("Leela's Homeworld") is why Futurama kicks the Simpsons' butts four ways from Sunday these days. The Simpsons has rarely had the power to make me all choked up even in its heyday (maybe like once in the episode where Bart gets a D,) but Futurama manages it at least once a season, and never so much as last night. Futurama is just so much more of a deep, more intricate show than the fading social satire of the Simpsons. It has more laughs than the Simpsons these days, but then it also has better characters, more interesting plotlines and a wider emotional range.
And it's sad that Fox so clearly prefers the cookie-cutter blandness of contemperary Simpsons episodes to anything with any kind of story and depth like what's being showcased in Futurama >_<
