Futurama Action Figures Cheap Online!

Tower Records has an exclusive 4-pack of MAC's Futurama Series 1 figures in their stores for $24.99. As long as you don't mind getting the figures, complete with accessories, in a window box instead of on individual cards, this is an incredible savings compared to the $12.99 for each figure Suncoast is charging. Suncoast's total price for all 4 is more than double Tower's price.

If like me you don't have a local Tower Records, the best news is they recently added the 4-pack to their online store. Early reports said it was even on sale for $19.99 when they put it up earlier this week, but now it has been raised to the less absurdly cheap price of $28.99.

Using coupon codes you can still cut this price down. First of all, if you have a Student Advantage card you get 10% off. I searched and tested every general coupon code I could find on the web for Tower Records, and after hacking my way through many misspelled, expired, and invalid coupons (including a free shipping offer that expired 2 days ago :-( ), I found this sole working coupon:

So if you order two sets of the figures, even after shipping (which is actually lower than Priority Mail here), this brings the price down to almost exactly the in-store price plus tax. Instead of a second set, you could just as well order another piece of Futurama merchandise from Tower's online store. They have all the recent items including die cast figures, wind-up toys, and MAC's 8" Nibbler, any one of which would bring you over the $50 mark.

Bender Bender is probably the best one in the set, because you can open up his chest compartment and keep junk in there. All of the characters come with stuff, and I keep most of the stuff from all three characters inside Bender's chest. :) His arms and legs are made of PVC or something, so you can bend it however you want. They're stiff enough that he can stand up on his own, which is a plus I think.

Leela and Fry Both of these figures have a lot of articulation. They bend at the knee, thigh, midthigh, waist, upper arm, middle upper arm, elbow, wrist, and neck. The hands are made of PVC so are kind of bendable, and they both come with guns that fit really well into the hands. Since they're so articulated, they're really posable... The problem is, the joints vary in strengh. I've found that for my Leela figure, her right leg and left elbow joints are pretty loose, so they sometimes won't hold a pose.

All three of the figures comes with a stand and a backdrop. They also come with assorted props.. For example, Leela comes with Nibbler and a litterbox, with a ball of dark matter in it.

Planet Express Ship I really don't know what they were thinking with this. Its smaller than the three other figures, and is really a piece of junk. I like the idea of having a toy Planet Express Ship, but they really should have made it bigger and better... I mean, Leela and Fry have around 16 points of articulation, but all the ship has is landing gear. They could have at least made the cargo bay open, or included little versions of the crew to put inside the ship. Instead you get little monster animals...

Overall, they're great figures. All except the ship are well worth $13, although if you can get them cheaper, more power to you. The back of the cards has descriptions of each of them, most of which aren't that funny... The Leela figure also has a quote saying "If you ask me..." I'm mildly compelled to email MAC and tell them to change it to aks... It kind of disappointing, considering how cool the Bender wind up and Bender bendee toy text was.
