There's still a remote chance of some sort of miracle in Ohio. But I'm not holding my breath.

Not quite. They'll reap what they've sewn in 10 to 20 years:

My opinion on what the future holds for America--and what you can do to protect yourself.

Unfortunately, I foresee a catastrophic economic collapse of the US economy in ten to twenty years. Before writing me off as a nut, please read the following and at least see where I'm coming from.

Reagan brought about a basic shift in the tactics of the Republican party. Their modus operandi now is to jack up government spending to boost the economy, while reducing taxes (usually for the rich, but sometimes for

everyone.) How can you increase spending and cut income at the same time? They achieve this by borrowing more money. Reagan almost tripled the national debt during his time in office. I'm not talking about tripling the deficit, which is bad enough, but the national debt itself. (At this point, Reagan would change strategy. He would blame the U.S. Congress for the record deficits that accrued during his years in office. Reagan would say that Congress was responsible, because Congress had not slashed spending enough--meaning domestic spending, since Reagan always championed increased military spending.)

Reagan chose to ignore the fact that his own Republican Party was in control of the Senate from January 1981 to January 1987, and that Congress actually spent less than what he originally had asked for.

This has been the method Republicans use ever since then: Cut taxes, jack up spending, and blame the Democrats for the spiraling national debt. There is one fatal flaw with this method: our whole economy is dependent on our ability to borrow money, which in turn is dependent on worldwide confidence in the US economy. Largely, the way we borrow money is by selling bonds. Eventually, investors are going to look at the spiraling debt and deficit and start to doubt the future of the US economy. If it looks like the US might not be able to pay off the bonds, people will stop buying them, and the US loses a MAJOR source of income. This means slashing spending by an incredible amount and/or raising taxes an enormous amount--either of which will cause the bottom to drop out on the economy. The great depression will look like a dropped penny.

Bush has already threatened Iran and North Korea with an attack by the US by calling them part of the "Axis of Evil." Now they are busily building up their militaries in preparation for our attack. It cost us what, a hundred billion to invade Iraq, and they didn't even have WMDs or a military to speak of. Trying to invade either Iran or North Korea will be a hell of a lot harder because they are hundreds of times stronger than Iraq. And it will cost a lot more money. The only way to get it is by the Republicans' favorite trick: borrow it.

In addition, there will be more attacks by Al Qaeda. Currently the US is trying to make it look like we're winning the war on terror, but in reality there is no war on terror. There can't be, because terrorists are really good at blending in with the general population. The only way to kill all the terrorists would be to kill everyone in the area where they are suspected of being. And as Bush himself said, they are spread throughout at least 60 countries.

The US isn't about to try to annihilate the entire populations of 60 countries. There is very little we can do about terrorism except try to infiltrate and gather intelligence, which will be extremely difficult since we don't know where or who they are.

The reason Bush attacked Afghanistan and Iraq is so that it would LOOK like he's fighting terrorism. You can't win votes if you don't look like you're winning the fight. Both Afghanistan and Iraq were countries with practically no military whatsoever, so they were easy victories. Unfortunately, we killed a few hundred thousand civilians with our bombs, and left many more permanently injured, which means more people with nothing left in their lives but hatred for America, people who would gladly give up their lives to kill a few Americans if it might put a stop to future invasions of Arab countries. Those who invest in the US will eventually see that the US is unable to stop the terrorist attacks, and that we are simply spending hundreds of billions attacking countries that pose no threat to us, this will have an effect on investor confidence.

Borrowing out of control will also eventually erode investor confidence. With the Republicans working within the US to erode investor confidence in the US economy, and al Qaeda working from outside the US to accomplish the exact same thing, you can guess what's going to happen.

Of course, this is my opinion. I could be wrong. I hope I am wrong. But just in case I'm not, you may want to make sure you have a healthy portion of your investments and/or retirement money in commodities.

One of the two Nobel Prize winners in Economics this year, shortly before the election, said that Bush didn't cut taxes *nearly enough*; that cutting taxes would have (parodoxically) raised the economy, thus creating more revenue for the govt, not less.

That's right, it wasn't a Republican hack that said this, it was the Nobel Prize winner in economics.

Incidentally, calling people "morons" for having come to a different intellectual decision than you is called "fanaticism." If A big reason why I think this election was lost by the left was the growing fanaticism of that party, that belief that only THEY know what is right, and if you disagree you are obviously mentally deficient.
