VCDs from Asia

FYI, I just read a post on the German Futurama newsgroup about these VCDs.

Here a sort-of translation: "I ordered the VCDs. Result: They are original VCDs out of Malaysia, officially from Fox Australia, and both Malaysian trade marks and a copyright notice appear when starting. The image quality is excellent, as good as is possible with MPEG-1. No sub-titles, original English score. Note: The copyright text states that the distribution is forbidden outside of Malaysia, however anyone who orders RC-1 DVDs from the USA shouldn't have a problem with that."

There was no mention of any extras, but I'll ask.

As an Australian resident, i stongly doubt that these are officially from fox australia. Unless FA just produces them and distributes them to malaysia. they are certainly not sold/promoted here.

Yeah sounds strange. I asked some more questions about it, and the guy who bought them said that they contain lots of ads for Fox Australia and programs that Fox shows in Australia. So it looks like FA produced them, but distributes them only in Malaysia.

FYI He also said there are no Futurama "extras" on the CDs, and they have two eps per CD. (Which totals 12, but 13 are listed. Maybe one CD has 3?) Also, the eps are complete and have trailing credits, and the quality is better than VHS (according to the guy who bought them).

Okay, I just talked to a friend of mine over at Fox video. There are NO LEGAL VERSIONS of Futurama on the market, yet. The VHS sets due for release in Europe will be the first legal releases. The Asian VCDs are NOT LEGAL no matter what copyrights they put on them.

Thanks for asking your friend. That sucks if he's right - I'm impressed how official they made them look. I just found out about this: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi A live chat with a guy from Fox Home Video (although I think Home Entertainment International is the correct dept.) next tuesday. Pretty cool - the last one was over a year ago. We can ask if knows anything more about it.
