1ACV05: Bender, Butter, and Popcorn.

I just noticed this.

Remember ep 3 where Bender can't cut off his antenna because it's like symbolically castrating himself? This is further enforced by the fact that Leela can't understand why he can't do so because "She's not a robot or a man."

After cutting off his antenna, Bender says, "I guess I'll have to deal with being half a robot." Then, when the robot cop finds the antenna, he responds with, "You call THIS an antenna?" You don't have to be Freud to figure out what the antenna symbolizes.

Anywho, in 1ACV05, after Bender produces a cardboard bucket full of popcorn, he asks "Who wants butter?" And he lowers the bucket of popcorn to his lower torso area and starts pumping the antenna.

I dunno...am I really sick for thinking this? Or did anybody else notice?

I think you'll find that the general answer to that question is: Yes, we noticed it. And, no, we would rather not think about the implications it poses.

That's like the Friends episode where Joey and Chandler are watching the Nature (or Discovery) Channel and see that the best way to administer first aid to a jelly-fish sting is to urinate on it. Then, later in the episode, Monica gets stung by a jelly-fish and, you guessed it, Joey and Chandler are the only ones around so, naturally, they weren't in doubt, so they whipped it out, as it were. The incident quickly (and wisely, I might add) became "their little secret." At any rate, I don't think anyone here would like to make light of the fact that Bender's antenna symbolizes his phallic potential (as small as it may be) and that he was using it to pump "butter" on popcorn for (who was the one he handed it to first? That's nothing. Did anyone else see the nudity on cable last week? TLC had a show Sunday night about pregnancy and had continuous shots of a fully nude woman in varying states of pregnancy. If it's educational, it OK.

also, i thought it was funny that they made the cop robot sound kinda like a black guy, like, of course the stereotype would be the black robot would have a bigger antenna, hehe.

also did anyone else make the connection that the baseball game was kinda like a paddleball game, ya know the wooden paddle with a rubber ball on a string stapled to the center of the paddle, that ruled.
