Happily working my way through the S2 DVD set today, got up to "Bender gets made" on disc 2 when about halfway through it started blocking and freezing, specifically when Bender is cooking on the Mafia ship and the extra long spit-take he does. Has anyone else had this or is it just a duff disc?

No problem playing any of the discs on my end. I noticed the layer changes were in the middle of episodes, but I couldn't tell if that's where the disc 2 change was. The only faults I could find with the set was that the English surround track has the least punch to it and the SDH suuuuuuucks, especially compared to the Closed Captioning we get Stateside with the broadcast versions. Nice to have subtitled commentaries, though. For reference's sake, I'm watching them on a Malata N996 in the US of A. For what it's worth, the last problem I had with any DVD freezing up was solved by a good cleaning of the disc itself, even though there were no visible blemishes.
