Futurama might not be great, but.....

I was reading threw some of these letters and I noticed some people blasting the show "Futurama". All I have to say, it that though the show is no "Simpsons" at least not yet it is a hell of a lot better than "The Family Guy". Now that show sucks! It reminds me of a program FOX had a couple of years ago called "The Critic". It was short lasted but carries in reruns on "Comedy Central". The problem with shows like "The Critic" and "The Family Guy" for me at least if the style of comedy. Its more of less, pouring a bunch of short and weak jokes made to get a quick laugh, but they really don't do much else. On top of that most of the lines are stupid and don't make any sense, the writing on these shows to me is aweful, almost like a 3rd grader wrote it. Now "Futurama" is somewhat like this, but I think thats basically beause its a new show. We just need to give it some time.

Well, I don't think I'm a "cartoon elitist," but I do think that "The Simpsons" raised the bar of quality for prime-time animation, and unfortunately, some shows just haven't made enough effort to aspire to that level. As "Simpsons" is the show that put animation back on evening network tv, how can anyone NOT compare other shows to it? It's like when folks automatically compare other sci-fi shows to "Star Trek." Gotta judge by what's most popular, or at least by what helped define the genre.

Besides OFF, I've enjoyed: The Critic, King of the Hill, The PJs, Dilbert, and now Futurama.

I hated: Capitol Critters, Fish Police, and Family Dog.

I'm indifferent towards: Stressed Eric and Family Guy.

Any other shows I didn't mention are either on cable (which I don't have), or I've just flat-out never seen, so I can hardly be described as someone who thinks "every other cartoon on the air sucks." (What was that show on WB last year, about an alien invasion of the world? I didn't get to see it. Was it any good?)

Are you referring to 'Invasion America'? We canucks (with cable) get it on our Sci-fi channel. It's not bad really. It didn't exactly keep me enthralled, so I've only seen a couple episodes, but it's ok.

    I agree with you that Futurama is not as good as The Simpsons, but the
Simpsons is in a class of it's own and it is not fair to compare other
cartoons to it.
    The Critic was heads and shoulders over TheFamily Guy.  Also i would
like to add that I fear that the introduction of these shows indicate the
impending end of The Smpsons. :(  That will be a day when clowns cry.
