Fav episode and why

My favourite so far *has* to be "Love's labors lost in space", and for all these reasons:

1. It's about Leela, and there's no man on Earth who doesn't fancy her (or doesn't and has seen her) 2. First meeting with Zap - Billy's voice for Zap is always quite simply mega - just the way he says "velourrrr" knocks me out 3. First meeting with Kif Kroker (Zap's first officer) - I think his sighs are priceless 4. The best lines, in general, like these:

        Amy:       "There's lots of great places to meet people"
        Hermes: "The Federal Sex Bureau"
        Bender:  "A saucy puppet-show"
        Dr. Z:      "The rotting carcass of a whale"
        Amy:       "Hmmm, I'll pick"

        Leela:     "For a split-second my commonsense was overwhelmed by
pity"
        Zap:        "It only takes a moment"

        Leela:    "I might have liked Zap Brannigan if he weren't a pompous
dimwit who threw me in prison"
        Bender: "Hey, you really are too picky"

        Zap:       "As my protege you should know that the only to deal with
a female adversary is
                       to seduce her"
        Kif:         "Ohhh"

Leela: "Oh, alright, if living is so important to you"

Has anyone else got a definite favourite, and why?

Likewise. I also loved Zoidberg's expression when he saw the lobster in the tank.

My current favourite is "A Big Piece of Garbage" - although Love's Labour's Lost in Space is right up there.

* The Bart Simpson "Eat my shorts." "OK! Mmmmmmm. Shorts." gag had me in stitches * The pornumentary joke was great * The episode's plot was fun and used to its full (unlike Fishfull of Dollars) * A parody with a life of its own - a little like Zapp Brannigan you could see what they were ripping off clearly, but it wasn't just a complete rip off. * Excellent humour throughout and plenty of good background gags

Mars University is my favorite by far: -When Fry let's the monkeys out at the cocktail party, "What is that they're throwing?" -The whole Robot House/Animal House subplot was hysterical. -When Fry is hanging over the waterfall, the monkey puts the hat on his ass and Fry laughs. Then when the monkey makes a comment about it later, Fry laughs again picturing it in his head. Sincerely, Little Girl

"Fear of A Bot Planet" has been my favorite for quite some time. It's the closest one to pure satire that the writers have done, and it's brilliant. Who knew replacing Ruskies with Robots would be so damned entertaining?

They replaced Ruskies with Humans... the Robots were Americans. Hence the "Meat Scare" (sorry, couldn't think up a better counterpart to "red") movie.

Actually, they could be on either side of the paranoia scare. "It Came From Planet Earth" seemed like the typical American cold-war movie, but some of the other facets of Chapek 9 seemed a bit more communistic.

[1ACV10] A Flight to Remember

The movie parody is beautifully done because it captures everything that was good about the movie, including its vast scope and scale, which is remarkable for a 20-minute TV cartoon, while kidding it all at the same time. It doesn't just steal the basic concept and fill it with unrelated jokes. The sets are marvelously rendered and the art design gets really, really good when they find sci-fi-esque versions of Titanic scenes, like the black hole and escape pods. I love the elevator ride to steerage, and the whole Bender romance plot. It was all the more touching because we know Bender would normally resist that type of thing. Zapp has one great Zapp-esque scene after another ("Here's a course with some chest hair."). Him as the captain who destroys the ship is perfect casting. That would have been enough, but we still the get the hilarious sitcom-style Fry subplot. As soon as that gets started with Leela and Amy we know we're in for some great TV laughs, and we get them. It shows how creative this episode is when the funniest bit in the middle of this epic tragic romance parody is a Three's Company reference. I can see myself watching this episode again and again over the years more than any other so far.

Runner-ups are the incredibly witty Fishful of Dollars and I, Roommate. I would probably have voted Fear of a Bot Planet the top episode based on the second two-thirds of it, but the first act with the baseball game is marred by forced humor and probably one of the worst Futurama scenes to date.

Mind you, in the baseball scene I loved the stuff about Leela: "they changed it because it was so boring" Fry: "hey, baseball's not boring ........ oh, so they finally changed it"

But you had no mention of Love's Labours Lost ..... amazing.

I agree that was a good line. The rest of it was just too wacky, all the way up to Hermes' hologram getting picked up by a bird.

It's up there in my rankings, definitely A material. If you notice though the episodes I mentioned all had great plots that held your attention from beginning to end. Labour's was basically just a vehicle to introduce the Zapp character. It's all funny, but the most involving part is the brief trip to the collapsing planet. Leela's story about feeling unloved wasn't that strong from a plot perspective and Zapp didn't motivate much in the story. We just got to enjoy meeting him and see his future awkward relationship with Leela established.

Mine was definately 1AVC12, "When Aliens Attack". First off, there was an awesome mass-sapce battle, something I absolutely love! Second off, it was filled with rip-roaring humor! A lot of great jokes like Lrrrr talking about "Her compellingly short mini-skirt!". The ID4 stuff was a bit generic, but hilarity followed. While Zapp had a lot of depth to his lines in 1AVC04 and "A Flight To Remember", his lines were none the less great, from "Right, right, nobody destroy Leela either!", "Call me cocky, but if there isn't an alien I've killed, I haven't met him and killed him yet!" and "Stop exploding, you cowards!". Followed was probably one of the series's funniest scenes where Farnsworth is hiring a new crew. They drew the characters similar enough to make it perfect. The third act was also filled with some great material, like "Nice overacting, Zoidberg!" to Bender's improvising, to "Everything being back to normal".

"Love's Labors Lost is Space" is my favorite too. I think it's mainly because of Kif and all the stuff he has to put up with.
