Have been away for a couple years--some questions

If I understand correctly, there are four DVDs containing all-new Futurama episodes in the works.

Obviously, this is terrific news. However, I was looking for the official web site, and couldn't find one.

Is there one?

That's great! If it's true. So far, all the evidence I've seen that this is happening is some interviews with Matt G. posted to privately-owned web sites. I have no way to tell the interviews weren't made up. Is there any official source for this news about the new episodes?

I think the official sites are no longer updated since the show was canceled. Futurama on FOX USA is death. Futurama in FOX UK is online but only the intro: http://www.fox.co.uk/futurama/ The DVDs are gonna be movies first, and then chopped into episodes, adding more content, this, according to Matt Groening: http://www.craveonline.com/filmtv/articles/04647510/rhymes_with_raining.html

It's disappointing how little information there is about the Futurama movie. Fox says nothing on their site. Curiosity Company doesn't seem to even have a web site. Matt Groening's web site contains nothing but a sketch of a LIH character as it is "under construction" which is probably a joke. David X. Cohen doesn't seem to have a web site. There's no official Futurama site. The few interviews with Matt or David which tell of the Futurama movies seem to be exclusive to obscure web sites or magazines I've never heard of.

If Fox is willing to agree to *four* DVDs, you'd think they'd at least mention it on their web site, or issue a press release or something. Maybe they have but I haven't found it.

The only reason I *don't* think the whole thing is a big hoax is because, since the voice recordings for the first movie are all done, someone would have heard if the actors reported not knowing anything about all this. So I believe it's true, but as far as Fox is promoting it (or even MENTIONING it) it might as well be a big secret.

The new features/episodes aren't planned for broadcast on the Fox Network. Fox is just the producer, so I wouldn't expect "Futurama" news on their Web site any more than I would "House M.D." info on NBC's site or "Scrubs" details on ABC's site. Best word, so far, is that they'll air either on Comedy Central or Cartoon Network (or both).

The bottom line is that it doesn't make a whit of difference who's airing the episodes, Fox will be making money off them regardless, which means they'll be making more money if they get the word out to more people. I'm not saying they should put Fry and Leela on their site's home page, but they should say something, somethwhere on their site about the upcoming movies. Have they even issued a press release about it?

Yeah? I don't recall seeing anything about this deal on their sites either. If it hasn't been decided which network gets to air them then I can understand, but the fact is hardly anyone is saying anything about the movies and when they do, they say it to obscure, relatively-unknown web-sites or magazines.

Maybe it IS a hoax...

Whether you call it Fox, Twentieth Century Fox, or TCF, they don't have diddly freaking squat about it on their web site as a search will show whether you go in through fox.com or foxmovies.com. If you believe IMDB's claim that the target release is Christmas 2007, it's not too early to at least mention it somewhere.

Other than the title/plot and the production status, I don't see much data there that you couldn't see in the credits of any existing Futurama episode.

Comedy Central will own the complete rights to the original episodes plus the 'new' 16 episodes (to come from the DVD's) starting Jan 1, 2008. CC can't advertise at this point because Cartoon Network has complete rights until December 31, 2007.

FOX and Groeneing are more interested in getting the Simpsons movie out first. There will be pics and animaniacs from the new series to be shown late this summer. The full pubicity blitz won't start until late fall. The first DVD is to be released during December, 2007.

FOX has little use for Futuama or Sci-Fi of any kind.

Let's see, Billy West states that he and the crew have recorded 16 episodes so far. Katey Sagal has said the same in interviews. So unless DXC and Matt Groening are lying thru their teeth, Futurama will live again.
