Prediction

Futurama will get cancelled after season two. None of the characters other than Bender are appealing in the least (though I don't mind watching Leela in a swimsuit), and he seems to be constantly misused and in any case he alone cannot be counted on to save a very bland show. I mean even the "straight" characters on the Simpsons - like Marge and Lisa - have at least SOME personality to them. But Amy Wong? Leela? Even Fry for that matter - all boring as hell.

Prediction: On the strength of Groening's name alone, Futurama is good for at least 3 seasons. And by then, the characters will have grown on the show's fans and it should coast at least another 4 or 5 years from there. If they do something earth shattering before that time in up, then add another 4 or 5 years to that total. Futurama could *easily* run 10-11 seasons.

Its got to do more than just grow on the fans - it has got to get better. MUCH better. The Simpsons was an fairly bland show early on (I can barely tolerate anything from Season one now), but then it progressed until the point that it was THE cutting edge comedy on TV. Thats the task facing a show like Furturama, and belive me, its no easy accomplishment: many shows, including fairly funny ones like B&B and Ren&Stimpy, couldn't hack it beyond two/ three seasons tops, because they didn't get any better - they stayed the same (or in the case of B&B got worse FAST).

If they do something earth shattering before that time in up,

King of The Hill has some of the most boring characters you see, and it's lasted this long. I think Futurama will have at least a three-season run, probably more...

Is it just me... this show is getting weirder and weirder. I think it's falling victim to MASH syndrome. Still, when it isn't very odd, or painfully depressing, it's interesting to watch.

Isn't this the exact OPPOSITE of the MASH syndrome? In MASH, the characters were dynamic and interesting in the beginning, but by the end the dynamic contrast was gone between the characters.

I still like KoTH, despite the bland characters. It's insanely witty at times.
