Well, you certainly don't know how Usenet works. All servers will *not* pick it up. In fact, my ISP (Prodigy) added it, but then hours later KILLED it because some geek in the Usenet Cabal sent a rmgroup command (remove newsgroup). I managed to personally persuade the people at Prodigy to restore it. I suspect *most* ISP's will honor the rmgroup. No, "eventually all servers will pick it up" just ain't the way Usenet works. Anyone who wants this Futurama group to survive, do the following: If you HAVE alt.tv.futurama: START MAKING POSTS *NOW*!!! If the group only has few posts, ISP's will ignore it and never add it. If you DON'T HAVE alt.tv.futurama on your newserver (Of course, you will have to RESET NEWSGROUP LIST on your newsreader to find out. If you don't know how to do this, learn it.) then e-mail your ISP, or post in the appropriate in-house newsgroup, a "Please add alt.tv.futurama to your server." If you have any friends or family with the same ISP, ask them to send the same message. If a number of people ask, it'll surely be added. I'm not kidding that there is a conspiracy to kill the Futurama newsgroup. Some people at alt.config are not pleased about it. Don't let them win.

I happened to follow the discussion in alt.config, and in my opinion haven't ever heard more lame arguments for killing a proposed newsgroup by issuing "remove group" command messages. Little green men I don't believe in; anal retentive Usenet sysadmins however I happen to know exist. Alt.tv.simpsons has 2722 posts on my server over 7 days. The usual argument in terms of number of posts required for a proposed newsgroup is 10 a day. Do you have any doubt whatsoever, given the nature of Simpsons fans, that alt.tv.futurama will get few posts if it is widely available? The only half decent argument against the Futurama NG is that there is an unwritten rule not to approve new alt.tv.* NG's until they are announced as renewed for a second season. I've been informed the second season of Futurama is already in production; thus that argument doesn't wash.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that AOL does not have alt.tv.futurama, and I will be sending them plenty of messages, and they will carry a.t.f. BTW, I signed up for Dejanews just so I could post here, and now I like it very much and I'm ditching AOL when it comes to reading newsgroups.

Simple solution: Get a *real* ISP. You have AOL and post on Usenet??? You have my deepest sympathy. AOL is a bad choice if you are into Usenet.
