I don't read capsule things, but did anyone notice that the cage in the pawn shop is a reference to Super Mario World for the SNES? The cage thing that the shop owner stands behind is built like the chain-link structure Mario can climb on that has rotating panels that flips him to the other side. Note the gray chain-link and the red border around the square.
