Another War is the H Word reference

I just got my copy of the episode off the internet tonight and watched it. Whenever I download a new episode and watch it, I pick up things I didn't on the first time around.

This reference may be a tad obscure, but oh well. When the soldier asks Bender to give his watch to his son, Bender says sure thing. The soldier says "Wait, I didn't tell you where he lives!" and Bender said he might want the soldier's boots too.

This just reminded me of the scene in "All Quiet on the Western Front", or at least I think it was that war movie, where the soldier had lost the use of his legs and was inn the hospital. The other soldiers around didn't even have any empathy, they just took the guys boots while he sat there with the thought of never walking again.

I'm sure somebody's also seen this scene. If you have, do you agree that could've been what the writers were going for?

Two things wrong. First, in the Pulp Fiction scene, it is the watch being given to the son, not the watch being given by the father to the courier (for lack of a better term). Second...do you *really* see Bender, BENDER!! of all people actually giving the watch to the kid? Even if he knew who the guy was, exactly where he lived? This is Bender we're talking about. So phooey on you. :-P

I just saw that scene as an extension of Bender's larceny. "I'll tell them you died prying the wedding ring off his dead finger" kind of thing. But, now that you mention it, it does make sense.

The best riff on "All quite . . ." was in Woody Allen's "Love and Death", where Woody's character is leaving for the war and he has a butterfly collection and a net with him.
