This was mentioned in the newsgroup a couple times before, but I didn't see anyone actually post the specifics...
Anyways, if you watch 'I second that emotion' (S2EP5), at around the 17 minute mark, just as the mutant is about sing the El Chupanebre(sp?) song, Leela's parents walk into the upper right corner of the frame.
That's one of the things I've always liked about Futurama, it's continuity.
Like after Earth President McNeal was killed by Lrr, Nixon was elected, and in subsequent episodes, Nixon was the Earth President...

It's either that, or nothing (for now). Haven't been able to get all the episodes replaced yet...and that's one of the few I still have in rm...the rest are either VCD or DIVX...
=v= Note that the one-eyed mutants left before the crowd turned unruly. If they are family members -- or even just unrelated one-eyed mutants -- perhaps they ran off to inform her parents she was there.
=v= As for why Leela's parents weren't around there in the first place, note that in the recent episode the action takes place in the sewers near the Planet Express building; whereas in "I Second That Emotion," they take a raft trip up to Park Avenue and then a bit further, and then walk even further.
=v= So maybe Leela's parents don't get around that part of town, though Vyolet and Dwayne seem to get around pretty well.
=v= As long as we're accounting for mutants, Raoul, the guy with an arm coming out of his head in "I Second That Emotion," isn't the same guy with an arm coming out of his head in this episode. Unless he grew another ear. <_Jym_>

The most interesting fact about this shadow, is that in the first "Tales of Interest" episode, within the "what if Fry didn't get frozen" history, the shadow doesn't appear. That could mean that Nibbler (or another Nibblonian) may has pushed Fry's chair so that he got frozen. That sounded weired to me since we learn in the brain episode that Nibbler is only five. I have three hypotheses for that :
- It is not Nibbler but another nibblonian. That seemed OK for me as long as I wasn't sure that I could assume time travel was possible. But the question was : why ?
- Nibbler is not five year old. Two ways for explaining it : it might be 5 years, but years according to his own planet revolution, and these years can be much longer than Earth years. Or maybe the five layers in his teeth stand for something like 5 *thousand* years (which could be suggested by what Fry says in that episode, about the huge number of layers : maybe is not bad at calculation, he can have simply a better sight than the veterinarian)
- Nibbler has been sent to the past, like Terminator, to make Fry get to the future. The Roswell episode made me think about this : no we know that travel through time is possible, and I think there is a strength parralel between Bender's head staying more than 1000 years in the desert and Fry staying 1000 years in the frozing machine. So, once the technical aspect is clearly not a problem any more, here comes the question : why ? Who could have sent Nibbler to the past ? Then I suddenly got the idea after "Leela's homeworld" : since Leela's parents have been taking care of her secretly long after they left her to the orphanarium, they have probably felt concerned about her incapacity to build a relationship with a decent man, so that they could possibly look for the perfect man for her in the past.

I agree. This was just humour. Nimbler is most likely nothing at all like the common tree and the number of rings on his teeth probaly have more to do with how much junk food he eats, but the joke madea a good segway at the time.
