"Weird Al" Yankovic, one of the celebrities in cryogenics, is considered by some people to be the king of novelty music. Writing and performing comical songs and parodies since his teens, with him finally making it big with My Bologna, Weird Al had since become the main novelty music act today. Among some of his best parodies include Eat It (a spoof of Beat It), Like a Surgeon (a Madonna parody), Fat (a Michael Jackson parody where he is extremely fat), and Smells Like Nirvana (a Nirvana spoof about the band and how no one can understand their lyrics).

Encino Man is a 1992 comedy starring Pauly Shore. The tale tells of two college students who, while building a pool, unearth and culturize a caveman who has been frozen for many years. The film itself was the start of the way unnecessary film career of Shore, who at the time was working for MTV.

Morbo, among others, is immortalized in concrete outside Loew's Qaddafi's Mann's Grauman's Chinese Theater.

The St. Louis Arch, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Great Wall of China all still exist in 3001. The stainless steel Arch structure has obviously been strengthened and reinforced since it's construction in 1965.

Fry must never have seen the premiere episode of "Futurama" as he didn't recall the career chips.

Alternate title: "Future Shock" from the Alvin Toffler book of the same name.

Superman III -When Superman is turned "evil" by a corrupted form of Kryptonite, he pulls the prank of straightening the Leaning Tower of Pisa. At the end of the movie, after his heroic qualities are restored, he sets it back to normal. The additional joke is that an Italian souvenir vendor fumes each time Superman visits, smashing shelffuls of his no-longer-accurate miniature replicas of the tower.

When Michelle went to have herself frozen, she didn't notice Fry. And when Fry woke up, he didn't notice Michelle.

If Fry ever mentioned her name to Leela, why didn't she recognize it, assuming Leela had access to a list of upcoming defrostees. It would make sense that she would, since Fry knew that Pauly Shore was going to be defrosted soon. Perhaps, she didn't want Fry to know that his girlfriend would be defrosted. She does seem to be reluctantly interested in him.

Why would Leela have to give Fry a delivery boy career chip? The Professor gave him one in the first episode. "Oh boy! I'm a delivery boy."

He was a college drop out.

I assume it said Hollyhood, but you could only see the end. The original sign said Hollywoodland, which was a real estate development.

I've seen Weird Al live twice. I think he was even better live than on his albums.

It was loosely based on a true incident where a frozen stone age man was found. The man was actually quite dead. To maintain accuracy, this movie was just as dead.

Darn Historical Stickler's Society.

This is easily explained. You don't think every single person frozen is kept in that one room do you? There's at least 4 people employeed as part of unfreezing people (ok, one of them's a manager), which suggests that there's an ample enough supply of frozen people to occupy them.

As above, if there are enough people waiting to be unfrozen to occupy a staff of 2 or 3, then it's possible Leela just never made the connection. After all, she didn't get to know Fry till after they were working at Planet Express. As far as the Paulie Shore thing goes, it's safe to say Fry would be far more likely to recognize him. And just as likely to be a fan.

This is a good point.

Some today wouldn't consider that a full education. I expect the distinction would be even more pronounced in the 31st century, but it's debateable.

One of the guys I used to work with was a Weird Al fanatic. He was disappointed by the concert he saw, seems Al didn't play any original tunes, just his parodies.

Well, Brendan Fraser is anyhow.

Because Prof. Farnsworth's was for an interplanetary carrier service. Judging from Leela's job once she took Fry's original career chip, the old one was just a pizza delivery boy chip.

Michael ZaiteLarry

The 2nd time it's been tipped over too. Both times the opposite direction from it's lean I think.

The Hawking's Chambers were pretty frosted up most of the time. (Except cleaning day) Having just driven to Taco bell with similar conditions on my windshield, I'd think it would be hard to make out more then a vague outline.

Im thinking she just didn't pay much attention until they directly affect her job. Basically when there about to be thawed. Plus Fry was probly bored and looking for any names he knew from the 20th century.

Well I don't think Fry ever mentions her last name. There's a whole lota Michelle's out there.

I think he had a "Space Transport Delivery Boy" Chip. And Leela put his regular Chip in because Fry would be pretty quickly killed in that job with out her around. Plus maybe the professor confiscated their old chips since they were his.

"Go Whitefish!"

How did that help though? Would you want to buy property with an eyesore like that in your face every day?

Well you get the whole "AL"sperience with the costumes and the running and what have you, n'ghey!

But it has an important anthropological example in there. The "Proto-Wigger" The missing link strangely enough between Skater and Wigger.

Two more DYN: Did you notice how well Fry and Bender could fly the ship? (the PEX building not being part of the ship and all) Leads one to think it's just the equivalent of a large Truck compared to the interplanetary cars that they have on the show. With similar controls and reactions

And DYN the Wheels on those LA cars? (Wheel's exist in the year 3000 Futurama writers.)

Fry's jump to the future was entirely accidental, yet he adapts very quickly. Michelle may have felt out of place, but why would she be so surprised that there are robots, aliens and really old people. I mean what did she expect in 1000 years.

True, it's not too odd that they missed each other, just a bit of a co-incedence. If I was getting voluntarily frozen, I would take a long look around the place before they put me in. When Fry was defrosted, he didn't get much time.

This is a woman who makes her dinners a month in advance and then freezes them. She seems the kind to look ahead at the list. Admittedly, Michelle was two years down the line when Leela last saw the list.

WHAT?? Michelle's been lying to me! I'll have a talk with her.

Leela would have seen all the faces during the time she was working there. If Fry ever showed her the picture in his wallet she might have recognized her.

They never made that distinction on the show, but it's quite possible. I think the "Professor taking them back" would be more likely. Especially since Leela went looking to get her old job back, rather then look for work as a space ship captain. I would assume legit spaceship captaining is a pretty decent paying job.

The original plan was to tear the sign down once the houses were all sold. When they started to, locals complained because they couldn't find their way home without it. It has since been taken down and replaced at least once. The original was plywood, the new one is all metal. It has become such a landmark, that any suggestion to tear it down would be considered a sacrilege.

The History Channel did a segment on the sign a while back. I guess they're running out of WWII battles.

Once for my old job, I got stuck driving a huge Ryder truck to Las Vegas. By the time we got the freight out, it was about 8:00PM on Friday night and I had to maneuver through "The Strip" to drop it off. At least I didn't damage any famous landmarks.

Good point, Bender's car in A Head in the Polls had wheels also. And they were round, not oval...

Was there a gap to the left of the sign? Seems to me that since many in the more urban areas of LA referred to their town as "the Hood", that the sign would have been shortened to "HOOD", rather than to just have the "W" replaced with an "H".

Like "Randy's Donuts" only more so.

The History Channel? Isn't that one of those expensive cable stations? :-)

You're right. I misunderstood you.

They've gone further than you'd think. The actual name of the city we refer to as "Los Angeles" is "El Pueblo de la Reina de Nuestra Senora de los Angeles del Rio Porciuncula" ("the town of the queen of our lady of the angels of the river porciuncula") 61 letters, and it's been shortened to "LA", or about 3% of the name's original length.

Can't say I blame them. I just couldn't imagine Vin Scully saying "And the El Pueblo de la Reina de Nuestra Senora de los Angeles del Rio Porciuncula Dodgers take the field..."

Once you buy the hardware, you get over 100 channels for free. Religious channels, home shopping and so on, as well as good channels like CBC (Canada), NASA-TV, Tech-TV, PBS and some others. Plus, "Wild feeds" which are network shows, commercial free, before they are aired.

Then you can get pay channels, basic and premium. You can pick a ready made package, which is about the same as cable, or ala carte, which allows you to pick any channels you want. If you get 5 or more channels, most run $.99 to $1.99 monthly or $14.00 annually for basic channels. Premiums like HBO are around $100 / year.

Superstar is the biggest service provider, you can get info from them here: http://www.superstar.com/

For a receiver, 4DTV is the one to get right now. It gets analog and digital signals in C-Band and Ku-Band. I haven't seen much of interest on Ku for a long time, but it wasn't much extra to add it on when I got my system. I don't think any others can decode digital broadcasts.

I dono what half of this stuff is but im gleaning it's $1499 for the system that can mooch network feeds and all the free analog then you pay for the individual digital channels? So I could be one of the Satellite guys who get the Futurama episodes a day early off the feed? Might have to start tweaking my budget for that. Cause the initial cost is the real bitch. I've always been frightened of Big Dishes. But if I can get feed, analogue free and digital off it hmmm....

And can you catch the Shuttle/Space Station Ku band transmissions as they pass you on that?

And what's the average contractor cost for putting one of them in?

When I got my system, it was up in the $3000 range for top of the line set up complete and installed. Today, $1499 should more than cover it. My receiver alone was $2200, analog only. Today, you can get the 4DTV receiver from General Instruments for about $700. That covers both analog and digital. Plus I really over paid on the rest, I should have shopped around.

If you can find a place that demos the gear, you can find out what size dish you really need. I got a high quality 10' so I could receive Canadian and Caribbean broadcasts from Phoenix. The closer you are to the geographic center of the US, the stronger the signal and the smaller the dish you'll need. They make 7.5' and 6' systems which may be all you need.

If you remember to set the timer, which I blew the last two weeks. The best perk on Fox is they feed without the logo in the corner and it's never pre-empted.

I don't get digital, however, I understand that there are free digital channels as well.

I've never heard of anyone being able to do that. The home systems are designed to point at stationary satellites parked over the equator. However, NASA does have their own channel which runs lots of video from the shuttle. During the big Hubble repair mission, I recorded 24/7 and got all 42 hours of space walks. I still haven't watched it all.

Right now, the astronauts are probably asleep. They're showing the control room live, which is mostly empty. Just the back of six or seven head sitting in front of monitors and lots of empty chairs. Plus the three giant displays showing where they are.

I also caught re-runs of some of the Apollo moon landings when there wasn't a mission in progress.

I don't know what it runs these days. Most places do a package deal with installation. Definitely shop around, I played it safe and ordered it through Sears. They used a subcontractor anyway. They did an OK job, but I could have saved quite a bit elsewhere.

Since the song came out it was revealed that he never had a motorcycle accident. He actually dropped out for six months to recover from heroin addiction. Since, at the time, the addiction stigma was too much, his publicist invented the cover story. (or something pretty close to that).

'The Day The Music Died' referred to the day Buddy Holly's plane crashed. an so on.

I don't know if that makes the song any better, but there is definitely a hidden level to it.
