They're often regarded only for their voice. If they had the looks & charisma of other actors, they'd probably go for the bigger bucks that a regular actor can make. This isn't true 100% of the time, but I've found it to be quite common.

Dirty & smelly doesn't matter if we can't even see the guy. As for the "alcoholic" part - boy, if we disregarded artists because of their alcohol and drug problems...
