Fry's name

I understand that Fry was named Philip in honour of Phil Hartman.

If Phil hadn't died, what would Fry's name have been?

He would've been named Philip in honour of Phil Collins. :-P

Most likely, he would have simply been called 'Fry' until they decided they needed to use a first name. They didn't use Leela's family name for quite a while.

I understand the "Fry" name was to honor that chain of electronics stores. ;-)

Maybe the "Phil" part was in honor of Philco (or Philo). Check Google regarding the origins of the television and how Fry's name (and Farnsworth's) connect.

Originally his name was to be Curtis Fry. Says so on one of the commentaries.

Curtis was once a brand of televisions (50s, 60s and 70s) and I think it was the parent company of one of the US TV networks in the 50's. Or maybe I'm getting them mixed up with Dumont - which definitely was.
