Who watches and who downloads

A lot of the people on this group seem to have copies of a real audio, or mpeg version of the episodes.

What proportion of people actually watch and tape the eps, and what proportion download them?

i watch them, but over here (England) we are behind the US quite abit, so i also download the mpg versions, its great to be able to see the eps over here just after the US

We're about a year behind on Red Dwarf. I got most of season 8 on Real video before they started running on TV.

Don't bother - the latest series are a bit rubbish. It went from being a 'must-watch' show to being a 'can't be bothered' one. What little I saw of it here on BBC2 wasn't that great... :-/

Yea I know the older Dwarf was best. And I have all of those. Just wonder what they have instore for a final return to earth. If they even bother to. And hey the roumor mill is winding agan about a US motion picture.

I watch and tape them all. But most of my recording's have little bits nipped off because of pausing for commercials, and a couple mis-calibrated VCR clocks.

I tape them too, but usually the credits get cut off.

I don't download any video on the internet. Even if it didn't take ridiculously long to download video at 56K, I'd still never do it if there was any way I could watch it at the original size and quality on TV. I tape all the episodes while watching them, at EP to reduce amount of tapes needed, pausing out the commercials, for my permanent video library. I always tape the end credits for reference and for the promos for next week's episode that usually air, which sometimes contain remnants of outtakes or alternate scenes. I can't tolerate the shabby frame rate, small size, and low resolution of online video except in the most desperate situations. Online video to me is still a novelty, one that's worn out its welcome at this stage of the game, not something that comes close to serving a useful function.

I love the Divx (MP4?) format. (Not to be confused with the defunct DIVX Video CD format) I think the quality is much better than the RealVideo format, even though the files are a little longer (up to 20%)

People with a 56K modem shouldn't belecturing others on the crappiness of internet video. I have access to adsl, and thus 230 MB mpegs are relatively easy to dl, and fantastic to watch. Especially now I can send them to my TV. ;-)

You wouldn't say that if you'd have access to a decent connection and had access to hi-quality mpeg, divx, asf, mov, etc...

They have a 36GB Diamond Max for $175. It's a 5,400RPM, but good for bulk storage. If you need high speed, you can get two drives and a Promise EIDE-RAID card for under $450. (Yeah, I know SCSI's better, but $450 for 72GB is much cheaper.)

I nearly always watch the broadcast, but the MPEG quality is better than my (regular antenna, not cable) VCR recording, so now I download and burn as VCD instead of taping.

When Simpsons comes out on DVD (September?) I will purchase it, ditto for a DVD of Futurama. I've never seen a pirate VCD of either of these.

I download as real video or divx to get the eps early in the UK but tape every episode off digital tv as it airs. I suspect this is a very common situation. I havent seen a post from someone who exclusively downloads instead of watching. The hardcore fans who can be bothered to spend a few hours downloading an ep are still going to watch it anyway.

I'm downloading them 'cause I live in Israel and we don't have this GREAT show around here. I think I was the first one to find out about that 'weird' alien language in "Fry and the Slurm Factory" (Hebrew)... hehehe... it was really ackward to see hebrew on the show.
