I am writing in response to the fact that production of Futurama has sadly been discontinued. I am a huge fan of the show and I rarely miss an episode; the show has given me much happiness and joy and I have enjoyed watching it improve and grow stronger through the years.
When I found out that the show's production has been cancelled, I was surprised because there is a huge fan base for the show and it also has a large online following. In fact, almost 50,000 people have already signed an on-line petition to save the show.
Futurama is, in my opinion, one of the most innovative, clever, funny and entertaining shows on TV and I am very upset at the thought of it being cancelled. The show needs to continue -- there are many plots within the show which would be left unfinished if it ended now.
Recently, Season One was released on DVD in some countries. Every single DVD magazine gave Futurama high scores for its content and entertainment value. The public spoke loud and clear when the Futurama managed to reach #3 in the DVD sales charts. If you continue to make the show then you would be able to make huge profits from DVD sales alone.
I believe that Futurama was never really given a fair chance. It has had little publicity and it has often been pre-empted to sports or Simpsons re-runs. Futurama has managed to gain a huge number of fans despite its anti-social scheduling. If the show received a better time slot, fewer preemptions, and aired at least 18-20 new episodes every season, I believe it would reap in more viewers and fans.
Please reconsider your decision to halt production of the show. Fox would greatly benefit from keeping the current talent of writers and other production staff for the show.
