Hi everybody,

I 'm trying to get out the lyrics of that Popplers Song. here is what I was able to catch, maybe some parts are not quite correct, but by and large I think it'll be okay: "Popp... popp Popplers in your mouth, when you come to Fishy Joes, what they made off is a misery, where they come come from no one knows, you can pick 'em, you can lick 'em, you can chew 'em, you can stick 'em, every.... (?)........................................... ..................................................what you knows?" (?)

Well, I'm not sure about the last two lines, I have no idea. Any suggestions?

That's "mystery".

If you promise not to sue us you can shove one up your nose.

Sweepings Worker bees can leave Even drones can fly away The queen is thier slave

*Please note* -- I have a tendency to post while stoned. Apologies in advance.

(to the tune of Sailor's Hornpipe)

Pop a poppler in your mouth When you come to Fishy Joes What they're made of is a mystery Where they come from, no-one knows You can pick 'em, you can lick 'em You can chew 'em, you can stick 'em If you promise not to sue us You can shove one up your nose!

If you promise not to sue the company, you can stick a Poppler in your nose. It pokes fun at Americans who love litigation (suing companies and whatnot).

"Shove it up your nose" is also an expression, used especially by younger kids. Its origin is probably as a watered-down version of "shove it up your a*s." I don't think you need to be familiar with the expression to think the lyrics are funny, but it does add an edge to the humor to hear an insulting expression transformed into part of an upbeat commercial message.

Probably not relevant, but quoting from the august Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy :

The crowd were tense. They were expecting something wonderful from
   Ford.

"Stick it up your nose," he said.

"Which is precisely the sort of thing we need to know," insisted the
girl, "Do people want fire that can be applied nasally?"

Highly unlikely that the lyrics of the Popplers song are referring to this, but one never knows... :-)

Hmm, you must know the book pretty well. I haven't read it in about 15 years. But, yeah, now that you mention it, I seem to remember kids on the playground and stuff saying "Stick it up your nose" as opposed to "Shove it up your nose," but I'm sure the latter is a common variant. Of course the book didn't invent it, but just observed that this was a childish insult kids used a lot at the time. With the current state of the culture, South Park, etc., I guess these sanitized "nose" versions of the phrase are not commonly used even by kids these days.

Yes, you' re right, I really don't know the deeper goping expressions, but hearing the lyrics you think "Damn, I know this must be funny, but I don't know why..." Well, after all, again: Thanks Brothers ;)
