Dear Fox, thank you so much for another season of hoping someone will record Futurama so that I can watch it on a shitty little panel in Realmedia format.

As Xmas is rapidly approaching, it is in the spirit of the season that I offer you and yours a humble "I hope you all get anthrax and die you mangy goat-fucking skanks" for once again opting to thrill us with the vastly entertaining display of overpaid ass-slapping homo felons chasing a sack of air around and treating the bearer of said sack of air to a testosterone- pumped group hump.

Yessir, myself, and the denizens of every trailer park and cellblock in America would like to thank you a fucking lot for pre-empting one of your few intelligent and entertaining programs for this violent quasi-homo asshump.

Agreed. They better show it at midnight, at least. I hate FOX.

And it's not even like it was for a good NFL game. Two sub .500 teams, Wash and Ariz., in a game that wasn't close, and was of no interest to the Boston area. GOOD JOB.

Realmedia truly sux as Fox does. However, you could join #FuturamaVCD of Efnet who releases them in mpeg quality so ppl who can't get it on TV like us Germans (the dubbed versions truly suck).

It's posted on alt.binaries.multimedia.futurama. And it's in a VCD format so Nero can put it nicely on a CD that I can take down to my DVD player and watch it there.

@Home carries a lot of binary groups, but nothing with the word "warez" in it. We do get the Futurama binaries group. I've noticed that only a minority of ISPs in the US seem to carry it.

Some ISPs just add every new group automatically. Unfortunately, even if no one wants a group, it takes up space. Others will only add groups by request. Some won't add any binaries or highspeed groups.

My ISP (Road Runner Triad, http://www.triad.rr.com) is really great about newsgroups. They carry most all newsgroups, including those with binaries and warez (I went off and checked after your message.). They even carry the msnews ones. Time Warner Telecom (a T1 provider) also carries all those.

Here, I get the Simpsons binary group, the Futurama binary group, and even the Family Guy binary group. Only odd thing is the Simpsons isn't alt.binaries.multimedia.simpsons, it's alt.binaries.tv.simpsons. Hmm. Does anyone get a group alt.binaries.multimedia.simpsons? (I might should cross-post, but I think crossposing is bad.

What does ATTBI carry now? I mean, if yours went to ATTBI. And soon to go to AT&T Comcast, according to Tech Live on TechTV.

@Home dropped every group with the word warez in it. but they carry most of the TV & MP3 binaries groups. Completeness is pretty good if you scan multiple servers, speed runs 2,000-3,000Kps, but the retention is terrible.

Cross posting in a discussion group, like this one, is generally a bad idea. There is often a culture clash between the regulars in the different groups.

In binary group, cross posting works very well. The actual file is only stored once, each group you post to just gets a pointer to the same file. Cross posting helps people who don't get one of the groups.

As of now, we are still using the old @Home news servers and the groups are the same and the 1 day retention is the same. They did just impose a 3GB in any 3 day period limit. As soon as I make the last payment on the cable modem, I'm going to get a real news service.

Interesting that they view usenet bandwidth as somehow different than the tons of data people download while using a browser (streaming audio and video, internet radio stations, pics, etc.). Or that Comcast's concern over bandwidth doesn't extend to their pages full of all that "multimedia" crap.

Quite true. I have shifted some of my downloading to the web to keep under the limits. If I want to run Spinner at 100kps all day, no problem. But, the Usenet is being limited.

Here's my theory: A majority of internet users don't access usenet at all. In fact, a lot of people don't even know it exists. How many people think the World Wide Web and the Internet are the same thing? Too many. So they can clamp down on usenet users and save bandwidth, without bothering most customers.

In the end, the limit is counter productive. If I decide to get an account at a commercial service, I will download a lot more to justify the expense. Once Cox takes over the network, the limits maybe gone. @Home isn't going to fix anything or ad bandwidth at this stage of the game.

Quite true. Juno alleges it is an ISP, yet their software covers only e-mail and allows the use of a browser (MS IE recommended due to conflicts with Netscape--which is poor at handling newsgroups). Nowhere does Juno acknowledge the existence of newsgroups, nor do they tell you how to access them.
