I'm with you. Song parodies in general are simple to write. All the real work has been done already. At this point, I think "Weird Al" is simply thriving on his reputation; riding his own coattails, so to speak.

Well first off, he does a half-album worth of originals too each time out (the ones on his latest album are of higher quality than ones he's done in the past). Song parodies are what appeal to the public more easily so the originals get skipped over in favor of them.

Plus, while song parodies are simple to write, not very many people can remain true to the original while still loading tons of jokes that actually work into them. I've attempted song parodies before, and it's tougher than it looks (though Al has done some pretty half-arsed ones during his career, I'll admit). It's just way too easy to repeat one joke ad nauseam or insert un-needed awkward filler lines when writing a parody, but Al doesn't tend to do that like most do.

The song in question (which was being quoted) "It's All About The Pentiums" in particular is a well-written one because Al actually did research, got all of the internet terms correct, and was able to stray away from cliched internet territory (porn isn't mentioned once during the lyrics). Plus he managed to make a Puff Daddy song listenable.
