Why don't they just cancel futurama, if they don't get to show most episodes cuz of its timeslot

They should show "encores" on a different night, of the eps that get bumped on Sundays for sports overruns. If Matt Groening decides to call it quits with new Simpsons eps, Futurama should stay in production, with all his creative energy devoted to it, and have the show inherit the old Simpsons slot.

That's all up to your local Affiliate. Some do some don't FOX doesn't have any kind of contractual requirement to force affiliates to run bumped shows.

Matt quit The Simpson's a few years ago to work on futurama. It's all up to Mike Scully when OFF will be finally laid to rest.

I am really pissed that they aren't showing a new episode tongiht.

But then it occured to me that in a way, Fox is showing Futurama some respect by not showing a new episode tonight and by having shown reruns all season long. If they showed all new eps which were then partially blocked by football games (like last week on the east coast), that would be a real insult to the fans and the show. So maybe that's partially why they changed tonights line-up; so that a new episode does not get clipped again by the playoffs today.

I which they would give it a new timeslot, but apparently they think its better to package it with the whole 3-hour sunday night lineup. (They might be right, I know some people that watch the whole linup including Futurama, but probably would not go out of their way to watch just Futurama on another night).

It still ticks me off- I want NEW EPISODES!!! We've had only TWO this season!

Next week, Fox is airing a 4:00 game everywhere, so they're simply not scheduling Futurama in the east, and showing "Bendless Love" in the west. A blurb before the Simpsons repeat yesterday Sunday 01/13 said something along the lines of "Futurama will return in February!" Why is that? Is that when the World Cup happens? Or maybe its AFTER any domestic sports, and they're saving Futurama to be broadcast act-by-act, filling frame set-ups in overseas bowling tournaments?

I'm pretty well convinced at this point that between FOX decisions and my pissed off state, I'd rather they just cancel the show and put out the DVD's. My point being, I will see more Futurama episodes that way, as I don't make any effort to be home at 7pm Sundays anymore. Considering FOX's programming decisions I consider Futurama "effectively cancelled".

In pitching Futurama Matt said it would be like The Simpson's in the future. Meaning an edgy in your face comedy set in the future. Where as the FOX people assumed it would be "The Smart Assed Jetson's" When they finally got the show the word is they weren't very thrilled with it. And they don't want to cancel it knowing that The Simpson's may soon be ending and knowing that if Matt walks they'll have nothing new to replace it with. So they let Futurama fester hoping it will get bad enough ratings that they can have an excuse for canceling it.

Just like last year, When the NFL is done they will run Futurama. Probably another short season.

You can't pay for a show like Futurama with DVD sales revenues.
