It's two for one at Krispy Kreme! Plus there's mermaids.

...That's what I had in my head when I went to Krispy Kreme last night.

The very first Krispy Kreme in the state of Colorado opened about a week ago in south Denver. I remember having their doughnuts once, when I was very small and in California, but don't remember much about how they tasted, etc.

I'd like to say, these are the greatest doughnuts on the planet. They are so good. Krispy Kreme has such a reputation for superior doughnuts all over the country that even now, over a week after the place opened, and at 2:30 AM (that's when we got there last night) the line for the drivethru was STILL around the block.

If you have a multitude of Krispy Kremes where you live, be happy. If you don't have any, pray for one soon!

Have they done some sort of total makeover in the last 10 years or something? Cuz I distinctly remember the cops of all people calling it "Krispy Krap" in Augusta and refusing to even patronize the place. Primarily because it *was* crap.

Yeah. Unfortunately some college kids (like myself but I wasn't with them) camped out at the store the night before it's grand opening. Such a stunt attracted the news, and then the whole damn state saw that a donut shop worthy of camping out was opening. You can't buy that kind of exposure.

Now it's always incredibly crowded; I don't even bother going during the day!

I don't care much for Krispy Kremes. They're good, but they're not THAT good. Actually the caked ones are really good, but I can't stand the glaze.

So what's the big deal about Krispy Kreme?

Doughnuts is doughnuts and places that sell them are just places for cops to hide in. What makes KK so special?

I still don't get it. It's a donut shop I see once in a blue moon, and the last time I did it didn't look all that special. I'm guessing they're on a reinvention of themselves, a la Denny's and K-mart recently.

Ah! I see. It's the novelty angle. I really didn't think that mere doughnuts could create this much attention (whenever a new one opens here, it's all they can talk about in the local groups.)

Ok, ok. So I really need to start reading TP. So far all I've read was Good Omens, which should have been enough to get me obsessed, but I suppose I was busy at the time. It didn't really connect that the TP everyone was talking about in damn near every froup I read was one of the authors of that book till very recently. I get the point already. I been missin' out, and I have only myself to blame.

BLASPHEMER!! Sure there are no bad doughnuts, but there are definitely differences. A trained palette can tell Dunkin' Doughnuts from Winchells. A fancy pattern doesn't make a regular doughnut into a cruller! It's an ART DAMMIT! Now show some respect.

Sorry if I went over the top, I'm just a bit edgy for some reason. I think I'm going to just finish that box of doughnuts and relax.

Funny, KK was always considered the prime example of a bad doughnut round here (they were referred to as Krispy Krap, but I've said that elsewhere). I know of one or two Dunkin' D's, but no KK's anymore. Mister Doughnut was the one down the street, but they closed up several years ago. They were the best.

Er yep, it's about time I checked out the doughnut place down the street myself.

This story doesn't ring true, as Krispy Kreme only came to the state of California a couple of years ago. Personally, I find them to be overrated anyway.
