The pilot episode is being shown again this Sunday, and I'm wondering if they'll edit out a particular line in it: the guy announcing his transport tube destination as "JFK, Jr. Airport".
That line has acquired a certain tasteless joke aspect it didn't have originally.
How is it tasteless?

He died because an airplane which he was piloting crashed into the ocean! I sort of doubt they'll be naming an airport after him, any more than they'll name an ski lodge after the Kennedy who crashed into a tree while skiing. (Or was that Sonny Bono? It was somebody. Anyway, they won't name a ski lodge after him.)
I hope they don't edit it out though, because I don't think anything should be edited after its initial airing. Whether it later becomes offensive or whatever, it is an original creation by somebody, and to alter it later to suit whatever the current tastes may be is destroying a piece of history. That's why I'm pissed off that George Lucas has taken his original films out of circulation in exchange for his new versions. The original Star Wars is a piece of history, a defining film from the seventies, and it would be a crime to only preserve a copy with 1990s CGI all over it. The same with Fantasia. Ugh, I've gotten myself started again.

I was thinking the reverse, that they'd edit it now to keep it CLOSER to what was originally intended. Initially, the line was intended as a cute throwaway bit, that in the future the airport is named after JFK, Jr. Circumstances have edited it, so to speak; the somebody who originally created it as a cute throwaway line might now wince at it, and WANT it changed to something else which DOES have the cute throwaway aspect intended.

I'm sure it was never intended as a tasteless joke. The writer could not have possibly known that John-John would die in a plane crash a few weeks after the episode was aired. -(Unless they have a time machine or a VERY "Early Edition" of news-to-come.)- It must have been meant as a passing "historical" mention that JFK jr would become president, say, around the year 2010, and eventually surpass his father in fame and still be remembered 1000 years from now. I hope his family and his wife's & sister-in-law's family will not take offense if they happen to watch it. Chances are the pilot episode wont be aired again once the new season starts. -(Maybe in syndication, I suppose.)-
