NNYCPD/"Police Academy"

I'm not sure if I was supposed to have realized this long ago, and I missed the point at which everyone else did, but not long ago it occured to me that the human and robot police officer team who have appeared in several episodes seem to be based off the Bobcat Goldthwait and Bubba Smith characters from the Police Academy films. Has anyone else noticed that?

Oh, and just to get it out of the way....

My question was whether other people had noticed the resemblance. I just added the quote so that some idiot would not throw it in and consider it a valid response.

yes, and my answer to your question was that quote. no one is laughing because it aint funny. if it aint funny, no body is watching it, therefore no one noticed.

They may be based off of characters from movies...but police academy? I don't know about that. Bobcat Goldthwaite's character was manic, screaming and, well, far more frightening than the human cop on Futurama.

The robot sounds more like Shaft than Bubba Smith's character (Hightower?). Well, he actually sounds like Isaac Hayes, the gentleman responsible for the Shaft theme, as well as the Chef character on south park.

My theory about the human cop? He is VERY similar to Fry (I'm positive Billy West does the voice) in demeanor...and in apparent intelligence. I think the creators may have thought that brain-dead twenty-somethings like Fry could easily end up as beat cops. So he is like a "what if" possibility for Fry...as in "what if Fry had been born at the end of the 30th century....?"
