Mars University >> Revenge of the Nerds Spoof?

Mars University seems to be a Revenge of the Nerds spoof to me.

Actually it was a parody of Animal House and about every other College movie from the 80's.

Not really. You could be correct, inasmuch as every college movie after Animal House(1978, I believe) took it as their inspiration.

I thought of the Revenge of the Nerds thing, too, when they were looking in on the girls. But it would only be a true ROTN reference if they had used a camera, like the original. Also, the rival frat was too snooty, and less jock, like ROTN. Definately Animal House.

But that was a scene in Animal House too, where John Belushi's character puts a ladder up to the window to peek in on the coeds clad only in their panties (and bras when it ran on TV).

That's what I meant. The only semi-definate connection to Nerds was the spying scene, which was overshadowed by its obvious tie to Animal House. The only other thing was that the Robot House was nothing but Nerds, until Bluto changed them, which might be from some college movie, but I'm not sure. Oh well.

actually i felt they combined "Animal House" and the river raft regatta from "Up The Creek"....all in all, an homage to the greatest college movie actor of them all: Tim Matheson! (at least that's what i thought after 4 shots of goldslagger (sp?))

actually thru that whole raft thing, i could only think of that peanut movie when they go to camp..."watch out for the deer ticks, charlie brown" or something like that...

I think it was "Race for your life, Charlie Brown" but maybe it was also comparable to another Furst film "Up the Creek" they have similar premises.

Bender stood in for John Belushi. Snooty House, the continuous track of "Louie, Louie," and the panty raid were also taken from AH. The multiple secret probation? Fatbot was modeled on Stephen Furst, who played Flounder in "Animal House" (and the TV series based upon it, "Delta House"). Furst was also in "Up the Creek" and played Vir in "Babylon 5."

It's close but I beleive there are some differences. First off Homer decided his mission was to save his nerdy friends (after playing D+D for hours and getting slain by an Elf). Whereas Bender is beseached by Robot House to save them. Also Homer is actually GOING to college in that episode, a whole nother plot point that is missed. He does things directly related to this point and he needs to pass in order to keep working. This would be where Fry is going to college again just so he can drop out and be considered as smart as a college drop out again. Both episodes borrow from all those campy summer teen sex comedey college romp movies any how.
