That Fry's name is actually "Phillip Fry"? They named him Phillip after the late, great, Phil Hartman! At least that's what I've read in TV Guide.

Another fact that seems to have gone unmentioned, even though it's as plain as the nose on Fry's face, is his nose. Or, more specifically, the fact that he has a broken nose. I remember a pre-premiere interview where Groening mentioned Fry had had his nose broken, and they showed a cell of a guy who looked just like any Simpsons characters only with a big bump on the bridge of his nose. This was Fry. Sure enough, each episode goes by, and there he is with his broken nose, and nobody's ever said anything about it.
