The tricoder is a multipurpose "convenience analyser". It can determine the atmosphere, detect bacteria and tell is it poses a danger, tell you the composition of rocks, detect life signs and can find a Starbucks on any class M planet.
Whenever there is a need for the crew to know anything, they just look at a tricoder and it tells them exactly as much information as is convenient to the plot. They were a bit larger than a PDA and were carried on a strap.

They did use the Blue Danube when Homer was on the space shuttle, but that's different from the 2001 theme music that Jordy is referring to -- that's "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss.

Before the space pirates attacked Leela seemed to be happy just piloting the Ship. (don't know if that was suppose mean anything)
The torpedo Bender pulled out of the tube was really small for the torpedo tube, and it had twin propellers(no use in space).
In the war between the believers of Bender and the nonbelievers;
The nonbelievers first strike used what look to be four engine bombers like the B-29/50, the first two A-bombs were dropped on Japan by B-29's. In the late 40's and early 50's the USA used the improved B-29, the B-50 to drop A and H bombs in tests.
The believers counter strike used a buried missile system, like one of the famous or infamous MX missile basing systems.
Then both sides went MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) and, killed each other off.
Well, anyone who's reading this thread shouldn't be surprised. I meant more "that's a bit obvious to bother listing" than "you should apologize". So you can retract your apology if you want. :)
