Sadly Confirmed: "Futurama will not be back next year"

Fox fates smile on 'Simpsons,' bag 'Futurama' By MIKE McDANIEL Copyright 2003 Houston Chronicle HOLLYWOOD -- The Simpsons will be back for two more seasons, making it the longest-running TV comedy of all time, Fox Entertainment chief Gail Berman said Saturday. Futurama will not be back next year, and the future of the sitcom Andy Richter Controls the Universe is in doubt. But King of the Hill has been given a thumbs-up for the 2003-2004 season.

Are they even going to be burning off un-aired episodes?

That's what the current season consists of. No new eps, no next season, just the same old, same old in syndication limbo on CN.

Yes, since FOX didn't cancel it, Groening couldn't shop the show to other networks, and since FOX wasn't going to order new episodes for at least a year, everyone had to find new jobs. They wanted to kill it, and kill it good.

Malcolm, Bernie Whack (er...uh...I mean Mac) and all those repellent reality shows like the liar who cons ladies into thinking he's a millionaire go on and on, but when Fox gets a truly GREAT show like Futurama, zap--out it goes before it can make it to episode 100.

When Futurama leaves Fox for good, they're going to end up like ABC for me--a one-show network.

That one was OK... still, not worth all the advertising FOX is putting behind it.

Futurama, Family Guy, even Greg the Bunny were better, but didn't get the adverts.

Andy is about on par with "The Tick" Funny, but not ha-ha funny

I do like KOTH, but Futurama is a far better show. Of the two, I would say that KOTH fits the "world's blankiest blank" demographic far better.

The more you think about Futurama, the funnier it is. Now, combine that statement with Fox's demographic.

The Simpsons are a hold over from when Fox was pushing the envelope. They would not run the Simpsons if it was a new show now. They are happy to appeal to the lowest common denominator with ultra low budget shows like "The Most Disgusting Medical Mistakes" and the ever popular "The Moon Landing was a Hoax" show. Coming next year, "The World is Really Flat" and "The World's Funniest Deaths Caught on Tape".

Yeah, they like it so much it's been moved to 7:30... That's what nearly killed it the last time.

This news is already one week old and no other outlet picked it up. The Houston Chronicle isn't exactly the normal source for hot "no one else has them" news out of Hollywood. He seemingly is interpreting the Jan 18th Variety news "Simpsons, King renewed" in which no word is used on Futurama. That doesn't mean that there already was a decision (although it's not a good sign either, of course).

Wait till there is confirmation from within Curiosity/Rough Draft. In fact, I talked to one of the guys from Curiosity Company 3 days after this was published by the Houston Chronicle and I really think he would've known and mentioned that to me.
