I need to share with someone...so I guess I will do it here. Ten years ago I was living in an apartment with a couple of roommates and all our friends would come over ever Thursday night to watch the cool new sitcom. It was an event every Thursday night, a bunch of twenty-somethings watching a show about twenty-somethings.

I have grown apart from those friends, but the show has always been there. But now, with the show ending, I realize how much I miss those friends and how much I am going to miss the show. It was a special show about a special time of life. When your friends are a big part of your life. "Friends" has been a part of a lot of people's life for ten years now.

I know that there is syndication and Lord knows I have all the DVD's to watch over and over again, but although I can still check in on my real friends, I will not know how the characters that I grew to love over the last ten years are doing. Hopefully Joey will be able to keep us in the loop for a while :O).

I share a similar experience with TySoho. With this final episode, I felt a bit melancholy (for lack of a better word). I couldn't figure it out at first.

Was it because I'll miss these 6 characters? Sure, I enjoyed living in their world for the past decade but they live in a world of fiction. They're not real.

What is real is ... a "decade" has gone by. My life was so much different in 1994 and now I'm reflecting on all those years, both good and bad, and wonder where did they go?

Kate, I think that is what marks the greatness of any pop culture reference, the fact that it is a milepost in our lives. It is a catalyst for bubbling memories of a time in our lives to the surface.

Usually music is the soundtrack to our lives, but occasionally a TV show will sync up with our lives to a point and will leave a lasting waypoint to a memory that we come to appreciate much later. Friends is a show that connected with a segment of the American conscience. To some it was just a funny show...to others, it was a reflection of a special time of our lives.
