Joey/Rachel matchup=Pathetic

They have NOTHING in common. This show has completely hit the wall. Was there a writers strike I hadn't heard of?

"They" have not turned him into a dork. Joey's grown up. It's been nearly 9 years since we met Joey Tribianni. Did you really expect him to remain the same this whole time? This is why the Joey & Rachel romance will WORK. Joey has matured and so has Rachel. If you watch episodes from Season 1, it is like night and day the difference between the characters in 1994 and the same characters in 2003.

I think the writers have progressed the characters wonderfully over the last 9 yrs. ~~~ Kathy

apart from that, the writers have done some pretty stupid stuff with the caracters. i mean joey is half of the time stupid and half of the time someone really sensible, really interressant,... chandler is now in the husband role. nothing as funny as when he was with joey. monica is now a real freak with all the winning ( loser ! ), which in some point she was before, but now the proportions have grown by at least 150 %. ross is still making a jerk of himself when talking to women, or about paleonthology with the others, ...

the good thing is we still laugh on thursday nights. the sad thing is that finishing a season this way, OH MY GOD ! for fuks sake, they could have done something like rachel suddenly seeing her feelings for ross are back.

fortunately some people here have real lifes, and will not spend the three months crying on why the wliffhanger was that one and not another. this is just a sitcom, right ;-)

It doesn't seem *that* likely to me, considering the lengths they went to to show us *how great* Joey and Rachel are together in the finale - and more importantly - how she and Ross are totally indifferent towards one another, which was highlighted (imho of course) in the only two scenes they had together: 1.) in one of the hotel rooms Rachel says something like: "Now Geller, when I signed up for Dino Week, there was no mentioning of it being during the rain season" - It might just be me, but calling people by their last name when you know the first name has always wound me up (as long as it's nothing formal), I just cannot stand it, I find it most disrespectful for some reason. Speaking of disrespectful, she refers to the convention as Dino Week, clearly showing she doesn't give a damn about Ross' job - but then again, neither did anybody else apart from Charlie. 2.) When they stand by the door of one of the rooms (IIRC looking at Joey and Charlie kissing), they just look at each in a way as if they didn't know one another and then they went their own ways. They've known each other for God knows how long and have a child together (where was she when they went to Barbados btw?).... This seemed just way too weird for me

Anyway, there's a history of cliffhanger resolutions being the exact opposite of what the cliffhanger made it look like. Bringing back the R+R story is going to be a massive anti-climax after this though. How's *anyone* gonna buy that these two can be together happily after having seen that finale????

i thought about(and hoped for) that outcome--that they'd kiss and then like in the saved by the bell episode where zack and jessie kiss and realize that there's nothing there and they're just friends. But look at the cliffhanger: Joey came in and they had an initial small kiss, then rachel said something like oh my g-d then they had another much longer kiss during which the show ended. So i dont see how it's possible to have them say that they now felt nothing, b/c they prob would have said it after that first kiss. And by the way, am i the only one who thinks that matt and jennifer have MUCH less chemistry than jennifer and david. I really don't understand what's wrong w/ these writers.

I think it's just you. And anyway, no one in a day-to-day relationship is respectful of the other *all* the time. But the trash-Ross's-work thing is pervasive, it's not just Rachel. In TOW No One's Ready, everyone was going to his dinner and no one was complaining. By a couple of years later, it only took a single mention of his work for everyone to fake snoring. Seems to be a decision on the part of the writers that anything intellectual is bad. Of course, Ross didn't take Rachel's work very seriously either.

Here's what I think: I think that in the final, forever series-ending episode Rachel will go out the way she came in: in a wedding dress. I'd still bet she winds up marrying Ross. Probably the writers think that all they have to do is have Ross say, "It's always been you, Rach" again and it will work somehow. And they may be right. There's also the small point that Charlie still doesn't know Ross's weird marital history...

But we'll see.

And could I point out to the top-posters among us that posting at the top ruins the point of the spoiler space? These last episodes haven't been broadcast everywhere, you know.

How about giving them a chance to find out how they feel instead of just judging it on one or two episodes? The fans were thrilled when C&M finally got together, but won't give R&J the same chance. Why? We had 3 seasons of the "on again, off again, on again, off again" R&R drama which pretty much proved R&R are not compatible as a couple. Parents, OK....romantic involvement, no. ~~~ Kathy

why ? just because there's a little difference between r&j and c&m : did monica went out with joey before dating chandler ? i'm obviously not talking about ross here. fact is : ross and rachel were intended to be together. ross has been in love with rachel ( for good reasons or not ) for about 16 years, that's not something you can't forget. from 101, till season eight, there was never a doubt that both would finally get back together. and now there's joey. how would you react if this happened in real life ? i mean if you feel like two friends you know are so meant to be together, and that finally the best friend of the guy decides to be with the girl, no matter what history is between the former couple ? i know i wouldn't be happy that happening.

But, over the years R&R have TRIED and FAILED at several attempts to be a couple. It would be totally non-believable that "all of the sudden" R&R became compatible enough to be in the same room with each other and not get into an argument. They even argue about what goes on with the baby (TOW the Peditrician, TOW Phoebe's Birthday). It became screamingly clear when Rachel moved back in with Joey that anything that may be happening with R&R was over. ~~~ Kathy
