I though that as well first, but then I realised that a word count, in msword for example, won't distinguish between what's being said by whom, unless, ofcourse, there is some special word counter out there I know nothing about :)

a quick script in perl can use the transcript in a txt format and will do that for you in a matters of seconds....

it's not a question of disk space, dude, it's a question of "actually working software". if you ever have to write some big piece of text (possibly containing images) like a dissertation, help yourself and DON'T use word!!! if you like adventures, USE it ... :-)

lucky you ;-) i tried and failed. so i used openoffice and it worked. i actually also DO know some lucky guys who used word and did not have problems. :-)
No matter how you slice it, dissertating is miserable. I feel for the people who had to do them on typewriters (*shudder*). ;)

there are a lot of people who can tell you about severe problems using msword based on their very own experiences AND there are people who only have had good experiences. i wouldn't call neither of their statements crap.
so this is not the right place to do a "microsoft-pros-and-cons"-discussion and i'm not going to. let's just see it this way: use what ever you want and don't complain if it doesn't work out well in the end.
