Anyone have a copy of Phoebe's song that was cut from the original pilot episode?

Hey Tennant,

What are the chances that we'll get the full pilot as an extra on disc 1, series 1? Or do you think well get 9 more discs of the Friends in London thing? I ask because I'm a little out of the loop over here on the imminent releases. Also, could you post a release date. I've gotten some conflicting dates from some UK DVD sites. Thanks!

Doubtful. According to Kevin Bright, all the chopping they do in the editing room is final, and they don't have special "director's cut" editions of episodes hidden away somewhere. They must have been planning something and kept the extra footage of the London episode.

Tennant, did you even read what I said, at *all*? They do not have master tapes with extra scenes. That is a fact. I have now heard it from two different people connected to the show.

What master tapes???? I work in the television industry. From what I saw in the behind the scenes special about Friends, and from asking questions at tapings, they transfer all the film to tape or possibly use the dailies (the guy seemed clueless when I asked) and digitize the footage into a computer program, most likely and Avid or similar system (looked liek an Avid). They then edit the show on the computer. Probably after each edit session (at least this is what they do where I work), they make VHS copies of what they have accomplished for the other producers to approve. Then they go back based on the other producers comments. Your so called full master version is probably never outputted or edited on a high quality tape format. It is only stored in the Avid. When they format it down to the correct length, it is gone from the computer. They then output the information, where it is probably online edited somewhere. Jim seemed to believe that they edited it on film, but it seems easier to me to go straight to video. Not sure exactly what they do there.

The reason that the pilot is longer is because it is a pilot. When a pilot is made, it is not formatted for time for television at first. They are just trying to show network execs what the show is. Many times, pilots are re-shot before they are put on television.

I participated in a pilot viewing a few years ago for a show. I was sent a CD Rom of the show and then asked to fill out a survey. I enjoyed the show and gave it a good rating. About a year and a half later, that show ended up on television, with new cast members and a whole new pilot. The name of the show was Just Shoot Me.

I'm sure that they keep all the footage and bloopers, but whether or not they have the time and energy to put together longer versions of all the episodes remains to be seen. Editing time is very expensive.
