I heard a while ago that Matthew Perry was short listed to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.
He's an alright actor I suppose, but play James Bond ROFLMAO.
Nice to know some American in Hollywood has a British sense of humour.

What's so terrifying about this is that I doubt the genius behind this idea HAS a sense of humor. Not to mention that while American accents for British actors appear to be no problem, British accents appear to be the bane of movie stars everywhere.
Now to drift a little off-topic, the family that owns the rights to the James Bond franchise has practically run it into the ground. A few years ago, Entertainment Weekly listed some suggestions for rejuvenating the series, and they were very good. How about inviting guest directors to do Bond - Quentin Tarantino, Terry Gilliam, Steven Soderberg, just to name a few. They could put some fascinating new twists on the series.
Ok, my rant is done.

Yep, the only British 'accent' an American actor can manage is cochney. But James Bond is B...r...i...t...i...s...h, not an American, its a ridiculous idea to think an American could play James Bond, let alone a comic actor like Matthew Perry.
No swearing allowed in a Bond film. :)

British
You mean like Sean Connery? oh wait....he's not British Or Pierce Brosnan, no wait, wasn't he born in Ireland? Ofcourse, Brosnan has the Accect. Not saying that Perry would be good as 007, as that would be slightly on the moronic side. Brosnans not to old to continue as Bond.

Born in Edinburgh, having a "Sir"--yeah, he's not British.
Not that this wasn't totally off topic here.

Okay, help me expand my horizons here. What does it take to be considered British? Does one have to be English?
*David Buehrle* :
The surest sign would IMHO be a passport of the UK or ire (Ireland). You could of course become very picky on this, because there's /Britain/ (the isle of England + Scotland + Wales), /Great Britain/ (the state on Britain), the /United Kindom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland/ or just /United Kingdom/ and the /British isles/ (incl. Britain, Ireland, Shetland, Hebrides, Orkney, Man, Wight ....). All AFAIK of course, Br^H^H someone from there please correct me; where are overseas territories included? If one is born in the UK and has a royal title, I'd consider him British, although I don't know what his passport says. I don't know what I'd call someone from Gibraltar, the Cayman Islands or the like. Thing is, you could either take it geographically or politically and even when that distinction is made it's not all clear.
Tennant will probably want to hit me for the "born in" bit, because I don't believe some American actor named Sandy Something to be German, just because he was born in Frankfurt.
No.
Christoph
Ah, good point.
England, Wales and Scotland are all part of Great Britain; so technically if you're Scottish, you're still British. If you extend the definition to any subject of the United Kingdom, that would include Irish born in Northern Ireland, but not the Republic.
Hope I don't get car-bombed for this... :o>

It concerned Matthew Perry who is in Friends.

Oh really?
Whether Sean Connery was British or not doesn't concern MP at all.
If you still need another James Bond rumour: Robbie Williams was more than once considered to be Mr. Brosnan's successor, although he's not an actor. It's been always denied though.

Yeah I heard that on to. It would be more appropiate for Robbie then MP to be Bond, tho how they would get round Robbies tatoos would be interesting.

I could see MP in a Bond movie. Granted, not your *typical* Bond movie...
(Which reminds me, isn't there a script floating around somewhere, of a Quentin Tarantino version of a Friends episode? TOW They Get Medieval?)

If Quentin Tarantino were to direct a Bond that would surely be the last one to be ever made. I doubt he's capable of directing a good Bond movie, it would probably be a lot worse than the one with that dude before Pierce Brosnan

Can you say ``dream sequence''? Monica has already been CatWoman. Could Phoebe be the Judi Dench character? And Ross the villain with the plan to take over the world? Something about all the museum dinosaurs coming to life and rampaging through the city? With Joey as the menacing sidekick?
Could this martini be LESS chilled?
I haven't heard this. I doubt it's true too. Probably someone misunderstood then reported the wrong thing.
The only person I've heard that's being considered is Ben Affleck. I don't know if it's because of his role in "sum of all fears" or what. But I did hear that Brosnon was considering doing just one more movie and that Affleck was being considered his replacement as of now.

This is an old rumour. I heard it during the show's seventh season. Dunno how credible they were but I had even read interviews where MP commented about hoping to get the part.
I thought the episode in S7, TOW Rachels big kiss made a joke about this issue when Chandler wanted wear the James Bond tuxedo.
Chandler: I would be Englands most powerful weapon. Jet setting heartbreaker on her majestys secret service. A man who fears no one; with a license to kill. (Worried.) Would Monica let me wear this?
