He DID sign the new contract, and he will probably stay on for the next season, since it will most likely be the last.

Seriously, Claire, tell us how you *really* feel! :))) J/K. I think the Ross we are seeing in season 7 is not as unstable, just foolish and annoying. His role has been quite insignificant this year and his stories are just fluff, not unlike Phoebe, Joey and sometimes Rachel. Monica was a terror in the 701 episode but she seems to have toned it down a little since then. I just get the impression that this is now the Chandler and Monica Show (plus their 4 "wacky" friends). But this has all been said before.

The ability to discern trends requires the ability to look back upon a situation, scenario, or event, and compare it to other known instances of the same. After reading your comments I'm led to believe that I can expect to feel much the same about season 7 as I did about -6-. Trends started last year are continuing this year and will continue to be very irritating- at least for me. This is fine so far as it goes, as I never considered season 6 to be a total disaster. It certainly had its moments and there was enough going on to sustain my interest. It just seemed there was a whole lot of nothing in between the good bits made worse by the irritation I described. All I can say is that it appears a slight lowering of expectation is required now to avoid disappointment later.

I've enjoyed all of the seasons more or less. There are some great episodes and then there are some that aren't funny at all. (But you knew that already.)

After season 6, I was well aware that the show wasn't as funny as it was in e.g. the beginning of season 5. There was a period in season 6 where the show seemed to lose its steam, but then the sweeps episodes came, which I loved.

I guess that some of the fans out there are more critical than me, but I didn't have as big expectations before season 7 as season 6. Having seen all the eight episodes so far (and that is not thanks to the Norwegian TV-channels...), I have to say that the season has been a rather pleasant surprise. There have been some episodes that I've loved, and there have been episodes I've found awfully boring.

Hopefully, the show will surprise me with some episodes just as good as the ones I really enjoyed.

Expectation is the key here. I can see that you've tried to give a balanced view on the season so far and it's good to know that you've found something to like. In truth, I'm quite happy to settle for the cautious note of optimism you've sounded. I had been expecting much worse.

The show was built around Monica & Ross. A throwaway would probably be Joey or Phoebe.

Joey a throwaway? Please he is the only character(to me) who has improved through the 7 seasons and still sticks to his character from Season 1. Phoebe might be a throwaway, I mean her character seemed to change after she had gave birth to Frank and Alice's kids.

Yes, but in the beginning, he wasn't very important..he hasn't had very many important storylines either. At least Phoebe had The triplets story.

But without Monica or Ross, you have have no foundation and the group would never have come together.

The show focuses on Monica's apartment. They hang out there at least half the time. Ross is her Brother. Rachel was her best friend. Phoebe was her roommate. The gang got introduced to Chandler via Ross, and Joey became Chandler's roommate, who Monica wanted him to choose. You can argue that one, but without Monica, there is no show.

I don't think it really matters at this point who was linked to who. They're all best friends now...anyone could be lifted, but Joey and Phoebe make the most sense. Ross, Rachel, Chandler, or Monica wouldn't be lifted because of the histories of R&R and C&M. I guess they could be, but it probably just wouldn't work. J&P lift out more easily.

I think that seems kind of unfair to Joey and Phoebe not being able to be a couple so they can be an IMPORTANT part of Friends considering most of the the people here think a "Joey and Phoebe" relationship is a bad idea.

Agreed, it will be much better. I have been reviewing this season's episodes on iaffectTV.com telling them to stop making him such an idiot anyway, so if they totally write him out, then so be it.
