hi!! Okay, I thought tonight's episode was pretty good. Pheobe's character is definately getting stronger, with more of a storyline. Ross and Joey's whole "being mad at Chandler" thing, was a little weird, and not very funny. I mean, are they really so childish as to be mad because they weren't the first to know? Oh well, all in all the episode was okay, but not one of my favorites. Oooh, but I did like Paul's letting go with his feelings and everything, it was cute :o), but I'm sad to see him go!
Did anybody think it was weird that they did this story line again!? If you noticed on the second 1/2 hr. of friends they showed TWO Chandler Cries. In that episode Chandler did the exact thing that Paul did in this new one. I thought that was kinda dumb on the writer's part. Are they so out of new story lines and original ideas that they had to recycle one? Just my thoughts.
Yes, it was even used on Seinfeld. Remember the episode where Jerry opens the gate and tells George he loves him and proposes to Elaine? Anyway, I thought it really worked well with Paul though. Chicken Boy was hilarious!
My first thought was of a 3rd season Mad About You episode in which Jamie and Paul are ... well, "confused about their sex-life" is about the best way I can put it. Anyway, Paul tells Ira that Jamie is upset at Fran, Ira relays this to Fran, Fran quizes Lisa at Rifs, Lisa does the "helpful listener" bit ("well, honey, what do you think it is?"), Fran guesses that it's because she took Jamie's place after Jamie quit (season 2), Lisa dutifully confirms that this must be the case (like she would know!), Fran quits her job and then visits Jamie to tell her and to patch things up, Jamie is all confused, Fran finally tells her that Paul told Ira Jamie was mad at her, and then Jamie with a strange look of recognition on her face tells her that Paul is upset with Ira, Fran suddenly takes stock of what she's done while Jamie invites her to a partnership, Fran tells Ira that Paul is upset with him, Ira quizes Lisa at Rifs, Lisa does the "helpful listener" bit ("well, honey, what do you think it is?"), Ira guesses that it is because Burt gave him the store instead of Paul, Lisa dutifully confirms that this must be the case (like she would know!), Ira makes Paul a silent partner in the business at no cost to Paul, then goes to him and has him sign the papers, and says, I hope this patches things up between us, and Paul looks even more confused than Jamie did.
While Paul and Jamie try to reclaim their sex life, Ira and Fran sit in a room talking past each other - "What an idiot I am" "I quit my job!" "I gave away half my store for nothing" "I quit my job!" "This is pathetic" "I quit my job!"

This is especially disappoining since they recycled an idea so recently used - and so much better done the first time. Leaving the sudden gush of tears as the payoff rather than the meat of the story works better. At least they didn't recycle TOW the Resolutions into TOW Ross Teeth until the following year! I thought it was a very disappointing way to write out Bruce Willis and I found it hard to watch. I also had a hard time buying the idea that vegetarian Phoebe, who can't even stand to see trees get put in a chipper, was so into muskets.
