My heart is beginning to go into my throat whenever I see a new thread on this subject. I am finding it all heartbreaking to read.
Does anybody know how long Lee was sick before we found out about it? The thing that has me trembling the most about this is that as recently as a few days before Christmas he seemed so normal. Joking, making sarcastic comments, being Lee, and announcing that he was going on vacation. Just like that. And now it is obvious none of us will ever speak with him again. It's either going terrifyingly fast, or he knew about it before vacation began and didn't want to bring us down. What does anybody know about it?
I know, I've been in two minds about bringing them across from ASC but I figured I should because so many people keep asking.
To be honest, I don't think anyone knew the *scale* of this any earlier than was evident. Lee was talking about being ill and going for tests, but nothing seemed too serious. Better, in retrospect, that way, I think. These things are often so sudden, it's almost "nicer" that way (wrong word but it's too late and upsetting to think of a better one).
That's the way of it though. I've seen someone go from healthy on July 1st to dead by September 1st, without any clue beforehand. I've also seen a good friend battle a brain tumour for six years, and eventually fight for 3 months to no end. Lee (and Jen) have actually had this easier than it could have been - no real compensation, but... Obviously, as people on this group do know, I have a bit of an inside view on this whole subject, and this has really brought home to me how much I need to face my fear and get on with everything, including going in for this ******** op, because no one wants to go through this, and I don't want them to go through it on my behalf, especially.
I feel really down, atm, so if I do disappear when (not if) the final news comes, I wouldn't be too surprised. I need to go and get some space and think about stuff, I think.
Jac, in the dark, late at night. Not a good way to post.
I heard Jacqui's cries on the wind...
I do still want to see them. If you'd prefer not to post then email is fine. Thank you.
Hey. If you need to get away from it all, go to a noisy pub and talk about sheep for a while, just drop me a note.
(To Jenny: can you please read this to Lee, and correct me on the first part if I'm wrong, if you don't mind answering?)
Hellooooo!!! After getting drunk in Vegas, Claire Abraham doodled cat whiskers on his/her face and miaowed this little lot at a statue...
I don't know anything about it, I'm sorry to say. I found out right when Larissa did, on New Years Eve (we were chatting on ICQ when Larissa found out from Jenny) - I think if they told anyone before then, it would have been a couple of people from ASC.
I'm just glad Lee's finally getting to go home. He and Jen can at last spend some uninterrupted time together, away from the machines, the tubes and the doctors, however little. That really is the very least they deserve, and as I was saying to Larissa last night, it was (and still is) my wish that they get that opportunity. In an ideal world, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
In an ideal world, we'd be able to turn back time and make sure this never happened, or at least stop time so that they could have as much time as they wanted together. In an ideal world, if all else failed, we'd still get a chance to talk with Lee one last time. Unfortunately, we don't have an ideal world, we instead have one where the bad things only ever seem to happen to the good people, Lee and Jenny being a perfect example of this. We do, however, have one opportunity which a lot of people in this situation might not have - the chance to say goodbye.
Lee, from your constant off-topic banter with Larissa, to your occasional but always intelligent and well-thought out on-topic discussion, to your bizarre sense of humour, that can only be described as 'unique' (whatever happened to setting me up with one of your in-laws?! :)), you've always been an integral part of this newsgroup, and quite honestly it's only just beginning to hit me that we're never going to get to see any of that again. But one thing's for certain - you'll *always* be a part of this newsgroup. And in the spirit of Phoebe, *always* feel free to come back and haunt us through the TV, or whatever. :)
Goodbye, Lee. We'll miss you.

What a beautiful tribute, Tina.

It was very sudden - sort of. He and I always emailed a few times daily, and probably about a month before we learned about his tumor, I was seeing more and more typos in his emails, not to mention his ICQ's, which was really strange because he kind of had prided himself on good grammar with me. It just kept getting worse and worse, and I was thinking, what is *wrong* with him? He *never* did this before. I didn't often comment on it, but once on ICQ I remember he was like, "I could swear I typed 'wifey'," (actually 'wify') and I said, "It's okay, that was only like your 100th typo this evening, and the third you actually caught." He said "I'm up to 3%? That's really an improvement." (Yes I'm in my ICQ History file right now.) Another time he said, "My ICQ is printing out different letters than the ones I type. That can't be a good sign, right?" And once, "Why are all my esses are coming out as "a"s and vice-versa?" He blamed it on AOL IM (which I had just convinced him to download) for no apparent reason other than that he hated AOL, and I said it was just more of his typos, which he was making more frequently, and he said to be nice, because I was talking to "a frickin' blind man!" I guess he couldn't see the keys or the computer screen very well because of the tumor. If you ever check his last few posts on Deja, I bet you'll find lots of typos.
On Christmas Eve I talked to Jen, who said Lee was writing me email but went to go lay down in the middle of writing it because he wasn't feeling good, and hopefully he'd feel better the next day. A few days earlier he had complained of having a headache for the past week, or as he put it, "A bird flew into my head about a week ago, and he won't leave. Any suggestions? He's been kicking a hole in my skull from the inside." I guess I knew something was wrong, but never imagined it would be something of this caliber.

Thanks for the info, Larissa.
As sad as I feel for all of us, I feel the worst for Jenny. Last time she and I spoke, all she wanted was one last day with him where he was his usual self. I don't think she's ever going to get that. Excuse me while I go cry my eyes out.

I have a little something I'd like to say...
I never really talked to Lee, I've read a couple of his posts, and he always seemed like such a great person with an amazing sense of humor, and a big heart. I feel extremly sad that I don't get the chance to get to know him, or even talk to him. I also have never taken death easily at all. So as I read all your messages, I cry. It is so sad to see someone go, a good person, good people don't deserve to die. I really don't have a lot to say..... but I felt as though I should say something, anything. As I read all these post, I grow more aware of how loved, and how good of a person Lee was, and it touches me. And makes me so angry that someone like this has to die so soon. Jenny, Lee.... you'll be in my prayers...
