OT: What kind of christmas tradition do you have in your country?

Merry Christmas!

I know we are here a community from all over the world, so I like to post a curious christmas question:

What kind of christmas tradition do you have in your country?

I start: Here in Germany the main day is December 24th ("Heilig Abend"). A lot of people are going to church, celebrating and eating with their family. In the evening Santa Claus ("Weihnachtsmann") is coming: He puts his presents under the christmas tree. This is the story for the children. So you get your presents on December 24th, mostly in the early evening.

The next two days are quiet family days: Just sitting together, eating tons of gooses, fishes (f.e. carp) and of course of sweets!

In Italy... WE EAT A LOT...REEEEEEAAAALLY...(on 24th, 25th, 26th and so on....)

As I'm writing from Poland I don'r believe that Polish tradition is that very different from the German one. Here also the most important part of Christmas is the evening on Christmas Eve, where we all have a holiday dinner, consisting as tradition goes of 12 (twelve) courses, with no animal meat whatsoever except fish. The dinner should start at the moment a first star shows itself on the sky. After dinner it's usual time to sing X-mas carrols and open the presents. BTW there are three different people who put the presents under the X-mas tree (something to do with Polish history I think), We got "imperialistic, capitalistic" :) Santa Claus (he also visits children on the 6th December), we got "communist" Grandfather Frost, and we got "Starman" - due to tranlation diffuculties a little explanation: the other name for X-mas eve in Poland is connected with the moment we start the dinner - it's often referred to as "a little star" therefore the "starman"

And as country which population is majorly catholic most Polish peole either watch a holy-mass from Vatican at midnight or they go to the local churches to participate in one.

OK, that's all I can think of right now.

Here in England the main day is the 25th. During the early hours of the morning santa comes and puts pressies under the tree. At 12am some people go to midnight mass. Personally I dont go to church. I spend time with my family and eat Chicken.
