Short, pointless post. They live in Greenwich Village, correct?

West village, Upper West vilage, It's got West in it

Sorry, Toni, but it might be the Upper West part of the Greenwich Village. I have a freakin' Abercrombie & Fitch catalog that talks about NYC, and they mention the Greenwich Village is where the outside scenes of "Friends" are filmed. I know it's not a great source, but they've said it more than once on the show, as well.

I do recall a May 2000 issue of Modern Drummer that SNL Band drummer, Shawn Pelton, resides in Greenwich Village at the time the interview took place. If this is true that the building where Mon, Chan, Joey, and Rach lives (as well as the apartment across the street where Ross lives) and another building where Phoebe/Ursala lives in the same area, then we got lucky.

BKC, you'd better get going on some more plot twists on this neighborhood.

why does it say West Village in my friends book then? and where have they said it on the show. They've said The Village, but I've never heard Greenwich Village...

This is true. They talked about the Village in 104, 119, 205, 210 & 707, while the word "Greenwich" has never been uttered.

Tennant, on the Warner Bros. (or NBC) site, it lists Central Perk as being in Greenwich Village.

Also, as said before, my Abercrombie & Fitch catalog has a blurb about how the buildings of "Friends" are located in Greenwich Village.

East, west, north, south--whatever. They still live SOMEWHERE in the Village.

It depends on where you draw the line. It could be that the people who live at Bedford & Grove in reality, like to say that they are residents of Greenwich Village - while those with houses around Washington Square Park at the centre, class everywhere across Seventh Avenue as *outside* the Village, or else refer to it as West Greenwich. This sort of thing happens all the time with fashionable districts in London.

Could be, perhaps, but isn't. Bedford and Grove is definitely in Greenwich Village. Greenwich Village and the West Village are two names for the same neighborhood. The West Village does not refer to the western part of Gr. Vill.; it refers to the West Village as opposed to the East Village–which is not a part of Greenwich Village at all, but is another Manhattan neighborhood directly across town from the West Village. The name "Greenwich Village" predates the name "West Village," but the name "West Village" is more commonly used today.

That doesn't mean anything. Why say the formal name if they all know the village means Greenwich village? When I visited NYC for a couple of days I heard people using the term "the village" I wasn't quite sure of the area, but I never heard anyone say Greenwich either, doesn't mean there isn't any such place.
