How S2 finale fared against the competition

Top 10 most-watched primetime shows during first week of May (4/30-5/6):

Talk about blowing away the competition. S2 beat out Friends by more than 2 to 1. And the S2 Reunion episode beat out ER by a substantial margin, something unheard of until this year.

Yes, they were, but still significantly lower than the S2 finale.

Survivor 2 had more average viewers per week than Friends did for its season finale (the Chandler/Monica wedding). Wow.

I wonder what type of show it will take to derail this CBS ratings juggernaut.

I checked out the link, and found that you got the figures wrong.

The average Survivor II ratings for the season was only 17.4 million.

The same for Friends was only 12.8 million, and ER was only 15 million, but those figures includes many reruns which attract fewer viewers.

You brits all think you're so smart, don't you? No episode of Survivor 2 ever got below 20 million viewers. Try reading closely. The figures are usually in Nielson ratings and are only in millions when specified. And even in Nielson ratings, you can see that everything's proportionally the same as he said, besides ER.

I did not say the figures were in millions of viewers, I said that reruns attract fewer viewers. If only first-run is taken into account, the ratings were quite close. Survivor took most of its extra viewers from ABC, Fox and UPN - not Friends on NBC, which maintained its audience.

Fraid not. First-run episodes Friends were usually below Survivor II by a margin of 10 million near the end of its run. Reruns dipped into the lower teens.

Give it time, I'm sure you'll come up with something.

At first, but by the end they were in the teens. Every other season has been in the high to mid twenties.
