Now that I have watched the entire first season on DVD, there were a couple of things I found noteworthy.
First of all, I scored 10 out of 10 on the quiz. Yay me!

Seriously, towards the end of the season, the new extra stuff is really interesting. Besides that, the teaser for 122 (TOW The Ick Factor) is one I swear I never saw before. And the teaser for 124 I *know* was never shown in prime time here in the USA. In fact the teaser that *was* shown when it was first run is the first scene of Act 1 on the DVD.
Anyone who ever wondered what happened to Carl when Rachel left him on the balcony? Rachel gave Monica permission to finish her date for her, and Monica accepted. It may not have been Carl's idea of a fun date, but at least he wasn't left hanging ...

And the teaser for 121, which casts a whole new light on Monica & Judy.
Yes, there's lots of new material. Sadly, Joey's dance in 106 has just been in the clip show, but the song at the end was a big surprise, and we got Estelle's first appearance.
Yes, that was good, but for me the most amazing new balcony scene is what the girls thought of the boys, in 104.
Actually, that could have been the one that I was thinking of, I knew it was one of those two.

Also, I listened to the BKC commentary over the pilot, and for the most part it was uninformative. There was one exception, however.
Kaufman tells about the initial network reaction to the Monica sleeping with Paul the Wine Guy subplot, and how they really thought it would not go over with the audience. She goes on to mumble something about polling the studio audience, who "educated" the network on the "new morality" of the 90's, thus putting that "argument" to bed (pun intended by me) once and for all.
I rolled my eyes. Wow, what a moral victory that was (:+P
I would call it a cheap victory by a questionable morality over legalistic corporate stupidity. I hate it when inept people do the wrong thing for the right reasons. It only makes things worse than they were to begin with. Obviously, the notion of having a character have sex on the first date is fair game for fiction. The proper thing to do is not to sweep the idea under the rug, or to suggest doing so. The proper thing to do is to tell such a story *realistically* and deal with the real consequences, which is not exactly something they have totally avoided, but since the studio audience "educated" the network, the writers have done as little of this as they possibly can. And don't tell me you can't do this in a sitcom. What exactly are you complaining about? The point of the story was that Monica *did* have such principles, but they didn't save her from being conned by a man with a smart tongue, as Joey explained to her later.
Ah, ya know I was wondering about that myself, but I just had to score the perfect 10, ya know ;-) I'll have to run through it again and see what happens. At the end I did get a screen which made me think that it knew I had scored 10 out of 10, but I wonder how much a DVD player that is not a software program on a PC can "compute" off of scenes on a DVD.

I don't think it has happened on Friends. I was wondering if it had ever happened on some other show.
1. My complaint was not primarily about the actual scene in the pilot, but about the commentary and the long term implications for how the series would turn out.
2. Actually, the "first date" aspect was Kaufman's words, not mine. I probably shouldn't have added those words in because to me, sleeping with someone on the "first date" as opposed to, say, the "fifth date" is a distinction that is entirely irrelevant.
3. That is why Monica's "principles" didn't save her from being conned by a man with a smart tongue. Judging by the distinction I mentioned in #2 above, of course the way Monica's experience was treated in the script was exemplary. To me, however, it was something less than exemplary. Obviously I am happy that the notion of conning someone into bed was frowned on - by everyone *but* Joey, you'll recall - but don't expect me to jump for joy.
4. The "New Morality" is about sleeping with someone any time you want to, first date or otherwise. Within this new morality, it may well be "good advice" to not do so on the first date. But regardless, the network's reaction - I believe - had nothing to do with it being the first date versus not being the first date.
5. And no, this is not about any prudish, Victorian, dark ages crap. My feelings about the "New Morality" are entirely practical in nature. I think there are excellent practical reasons why sexual activity should be confined to marriage.
6. And no, Friends is by no means the only show that thumbs its nose at this "old morality". *That* is not quite what I was commenting on, though it has been my consistent "rant" against this show from the very beginning. The old-timers here can confirm this. What I was commenting on was rationalization given in the commentary by Kaufman. It was as if there no longer any need for a discussion about the "new morality" and anyone who opposes it is to be ridiculed. At the menu where you found the brief clips, if you highlight the coffee cup 'bullet' to the left of the episode title, you get the brief clip. If you click on the title itself instead of the coffee cup, you get the entire episode.
Huh... I may well have missed that. I noticed during my browsing of the features that it was sometimes very hard to tell where the various choices were. They could have made it a little more obvious.
I'm not sure. At first sight the BoF discs aren't chaptered, but then I found out that they were. It's still only one chapter per episode, but it means you can use the chapter skip functions to whiz backwards & forwards through the disc.
Actually, it was 8 out of 8 ;-) I'm just so used to quizzes being 10 questions ;-)
The answer to that question would be: 3 I guess that's all they had.

1. Now I have 3 different DVD software players on my computer. The Best of's came with one, this one comes with one, and I already had one. They are starting to proliferate...
2. The subtitles menu has two entries for "English (United States)" but one of them actually selects what is either Chinese or Korean.
3. TOW The Monkey Gets Away strikes me (like it didn't the first time through) as an ominous omen for the Ross & Rachel relationship. I couldn't help but cringe as Rachel tried desparately to apologize to Ross and Ross just stood there mercilessly ridiculing her. Later in the episode it happens again, only this time it is obvious that his frustration over her inability to sense his feelings for her is fueling his tirade, and of course at the end he does apologize to her and she is very understanding.
Oh, you got the three I found. I was wondering if there were Phoebe, Joey & Rachel responses, but I never got one.

Monica is at lunch with her mother. Judy is trying to be nice, but her daughter is very neurotic, jumping on anything she says. Monica insists on paying the bill, but her card bounces, so Judy does it, with a smirk.
The scene after the opening titles begins with Joey cross-examining Monica about how someone got hold of her credit card number. This was the original teaser as shown on NBC & ever since, until now.

Lol, that's not an inside joke, it's a freaky coincidence. That episode first aired on 11th May 1995, and Courteney Cox began work on the Scream trilogy a year later - "Scream" was released on 20th December 1996.

Really? I've got Disc 3 in the player at the moment, and the subtitles menu lists English, Fran�ais, Espa�ol, Korean & Off. There's only one English, it doesn't say "(United States)", and it selects English.

I have GPF in my acronyms list. Apart from "Go Puke, Fast!", its other definition is "General Protection Fault". However, I do not have the slightest idea what a "General Protection Fault" is, so I didn't know if that was what James was talking about. I thought it best to ask.
In any case, James is a big boy now, quite capable of looking after himself, and doesn't need protection from little trolls like you.

General Protection Fault is not even the phrase used anymore, but for me it is a general category of errors that are useless to the casual user (me) since it is no help in diagnosing the problem.
No, that's worse than GPF. GPF is when a windows program crashes for no good discernable reason, and the only people who could ever diagnose the situation from the output is Microsoft.
