Selleck returns for "Friends" May finale.

May sweeps signals a time for outrageous storylines, nail-biting cliffhangers, and of course, special guests. In February they hosted a run with actress Reese Witherspoon. Now it looks like actor Tom Selleck will return to NBC's "Friends" for the show May 18 season finale, reports USA Today.

Selleck will play Richard, Monica's(Courteney Cox Arquette) ex (albeit, much older) boyfriend. He last appeared on the hit comedy during the 1996-1997 season.

Claire, START SINGING THAT DAMN SONG AGAIN NOW!!! :)

I don't get why so many people are automatically assuming a Chandler/Monica breakup would be such a horrible thing. If they go round after round of cruel insults a la Ross and Rachel, then it will be difficult to watch, but they won't necessarily do that. Can we not just wait and see what happens?

If nothing else, Chandler is really cute when he's depressed, and a lot funnier.

For the same reason that some of us are still hoping for an R&R reunion someday; they have an emotional investment in it. If they break up C&M I'm afraid I'm actually going to have to go to Great Britain and make sure Helena eats and gets out of bed each day. :-)

If they go round after round of

Lord, that was a bad decision

I'm looking forward to Selleck. I've always enjoyed Richard Burke. I do not expect him to stay long, though.

Claire Abraham wrote:

Here's what I would like to see happen in the finale. Monica runs into Richard and somehow finds out he has re-married and has a newborn baby. *Regardless* of whether or not she still has feelings for Richard, I think this would have a pretty dramatic effect on her. She starts to obsess about it in front of Chandler who has been planning a wedding proposal for some time now. This causes Chandler to question his planned actions and gradually causes him to come down with "Ross-syndrom". Whatever happens from this point on is up to eveyone's imagination.

I would like things to happen *this* way for three reasons:

  • There are many possibilites for where it could eventually lead.
2. It would add a much needed *real* conflict to the relationship which
in turn would add some much needed depth, dimension, and sense
     of realness to the relationship.
3. I like Richard. I always have. In my opinion, Richard has been the
best character outside of the group that the show has ever had. For
the period of time he was on the show, he was portrayed as a very
straight-up, decent, and all-around great guy. I also liked the way
Monica was back then when she was with him.
As a result, I would not want to see him *directly* cause problems
for Chandler and Monica(by say, proclaiming his love for her while
knowing she is with Chandler) because that to me would seem
ridiculously out of character. I would not want to see the writers
destroy the integrity of his character for the sole sake of trying to
make the C+M story more interesting. It would be sloppy writing
     in my opinion.

In any event, I'm looking forward to seeing Selleck back on the show again.

Maybe it will give the show a real feeling of the "good old days" of season 2.

what

Hey, I just thought of something! What if Richard comes back wanting kids but Monica already pregnant?! But she hasn't told Chandler for fear of freaking him out! Then Chandler sees Rich and Mon just talking and does freak out, but Mon reassures him there is *NO*thing. Later on she tells him she is pregnant and he's all happy (and so is Monica that he's not excessively worried) for a couple of secs. And then he quickly steps back like when Phoebs's water broke and a Chandleresque "Woah, woah, woah, hold on a second, is it really *MY* kid, you sure ???!!!" totally freaking out. The end. Now if that is no cliffhanger then what is ?

freaking

wow.. Adeline.. I have noticed I have become infamous here hey.. no..this is cool.. but I think it may be a little too excessive C+M (there is just no pleasing me) you can;t have two major life altering changes happen to them in one cliffhanger.. a kid and a marriage. These two people haven;t had either for themselves in 6 years. I just want them to stay together that's all. and maybe get engaged.... although this is a cool idea.. I certainly don;t see Richard going to Monica and syaing "hey.. remember me from 4 years back, well, I wanna have kids now, and I still love you" that would be silly.. he was really great when he was around.. and I doubt Richard would permanently break up C+M.. maybe just push them along a bit into being "more interesting" for the other fans.

I rreckon there must be some R+R or at least some other cliffhanger.. there is normally more complications.. these writers may annoy some people on here a lot.. but they are quite clever.. they don;t just do everything like we thought they would.. they may film amny finales like they did in London, and chose which outcome they prefer. I dunno. anyone got any ideas ??

LOL of course it would. Maybe he wouldn't say the actual words but something like "Hey I changed my mind, I'm sorry I made you cry and I just want you back..." Oh-this just gave me another idea! Monica could "play" with him (and no! no football game!) to see how far he's ready to go or how serious he is. Which would of course have a negative impact on Chandler.

Yyyeah, he shouldn't have let his lip go bald! He just... lost it (to me) after he got rid of THE moustache. The only thought of Tom Selleck evokes moustache to me =)

Couldn't agree more! Just as long as they get back together quickly!

Yeah, I hope so too. I remember how frustrated I was after they broke up. I felt sympathy for Ross and somehow Rachel came off as the culprit to me. I always thought she spent too much time with Mark, even more so than with Ross! Although Ross should have NEVER slept with the "girl from that copy place, which yesterday you took full responsability for!" Anyway, my aim isn't to start a R&R thread (no offense intended), so, let's move on!

Right, (almost) always. But two people in love *can* come over them as long as the bottom line is, they love each other. And R&R still *do* love each other. It's so obvious! It's the nose in the middle of a face. So, it's obvious they're not ready for getting back together just yet, "but it's not obvious why" as Rach would say.

Oooh yeah. Not that they annoy me but I've read so many posts about how people are pissed at them!

More than we think they are, probably. My guess is they just keep their best ideas under wraps till May sweeps.

Well, they wouldn't be done anytime soon if they were to write what everyone wants them to =)

See 'My guess is...' above. I can't come up with anything better right now, hehe =)

Spoiler Space:

Okay, I think for this season finale to be a better sucess than the rest fo the season we need several things:

1. C&M CANNOT break up!!!! I will refuse to watch 2. Judy and Jack Geller. Whenever they're on, its hilarious. 3. Nora Bing. She's been on once, let's have her back since her son should be getting married.

Maybe Richard's not coming back for Monica, they did that last year. I still stick to my first unpublised prediction.Maybe he's marrying Nora. Then Chandler's step-father is his girlfriend/fiance's ex boyfriend. Think of the possiblities. It includes a wedding as E! mentioned. Plus, having the Gellers have to be friends with Nora once she married their close friend. Of course Chandler will have millions of problems with this, but his friends will help him through it.

This is my first time posting here. Reading through a number of articles in this group, I came across a topic that I feel strongly about. What follows is not meant to be mean, spiteful, or trying to provoke flames in any way, it's just how I personally feel about the issue. The so-called C&M fans and the so-called R&R fans should take note of this.

I strongly disagree. A C&M break up is going to HAVE to happen at some point. Otherwise it will end up becoming one of the most boring, sappy, and sour storylines in the history of television(it's already getting really close to that as we speak). Not necessarily for good, but they definitely need a long break so the audience can breathe some fresh air for awhile. A C&M break up WILL NOT hurt the show. Of course C&M fans say it will because well......they are C&M fans. But despite what alot of you may think, the so-called C&M fans and the so-called R&R fans make up a very small percentage of the show's OVERALL viewing public. The average viewer doesn't give a damn whether C&M get married or whether R&R get back together. The only thing the average viewer gives a damn about is that the show is entertaining and funny to watch. This has not been the case this season.

I'd have to rank this season as being the worst in the entire run of the series. I believe there are a couple of reasons for this but I believe that one of them is because of C&M. Honestly, I think C&M are two very compatible people and make a very nice pairing. But they have hurt the quality of the show. First of all, Monica has become the most annoying, obnoxious, and unlikeable character on the show since she paired up with Chandler(she used to be so sweet, nice, and caring). Second of all, Chandler has become this nerdy, dweeby, wimpy, whipped, boring, and unfunny character(He was never any of these things and used to be my favorite character)since he paired up with Monica. Third, Chandler and Joey have been replaced with Chandler and Monica and quite frankly, Chandler and Monica completely suck IN COMPARISON with Chandler and Joey from an entertainment standpoint. And finally, the living arrangements are just not as effective as the original ones were. Because Monica's apartment is at the CENTER of the show, having Chandler and Monica who are in a relationship living together effectively makes it the Chandler and Monica Show in alot of ways. This does not really appeal to anyone except the C&M fans which as I said are a very small percentage of people in comparison with the total number of people who watch the show.

A C&M break up will not hurt the show. As long as it is not handled in the same way that the R&R break up was handled, a C&M break up is going to help the show. In all honestly, I myself cannot believe that I feel this way. The reason is because C&M was the reason that I started watching the show again last season(I stopped watching at the beginning of the fourth season). They really brought some life back into the show last season. But this season, that same life that they brought into the show, they are completely sucking it right back out. Once again, this is not meant to start any arguments or anything of the sort. It's just my strong opinion about the quality of the show and it's causes.

I agree with your assessment of the changes in the characters, but I don't think they've really *hurt* the overall quality of the show--yet. They still have their moments, but this season hasn't measured up to season five. Something has to give--I have 4 years invested in this couple, but I wouldn't mind if they'd take a break.

I know what you mean. That first year of their relationship was really great--I'm surprised at my own attitude as well. I don't think a breakup would hurt the show, though to say they're completely sucking the life out of the show is a little strong (just like you said). Personally, I'm interested to see how they would handle a breakup at this point.

You see I think they have. The Chandler and Joey stuff was one of the greatest things about this show. We no longer get to see this stuff because of Chandler and Monica. Chandler used to be such a funny and likeable guy. His sarcasm and wit was central to the show. This is no longer the case because of Chandler and Monica. Monica used to be this nice, sweet, caring person. This is no longer the case because of Chandler and Monica. If Chandler and Monica haven't HURT the quality of the show, they certainly have taken alot of good stuff away from it.

Yes, I said that before. It wouldn't necessarily have to be permanent. In fact I don't think I would want it to be permanent. But they need some time apart to give the story a rest and give everyone a chance to breathe. And when I say time apart I don't mean two, three, or even four episodes. I mean a pretty substantial amount of time. It's the only way to keep this story from seeming repetitive, sour, and drawn out.

Suck? Well yeah. Chandler and Joey were the best thing about this show. The chemistry between Chandler and Joey just completely blows any chemistry that Chandler and Monica have completely away. When I said they suck, I didn't mean C&M literally suck. I meant that from an entertainment standpoint, they suck in comparison with Chandler and Joey.

This is completely different. A friendship does not hold the same level of importance in TV land as a romantic relationship does. We see it all the time. The romantic relationship tends to get focused on alot more. C&M's relationship was one of the more important and prominent stories of the show. Rachel and Monica's relationship wasn't. By moving C&M in together they were effectively moving the C&M story to the center of the show and everything else was left to revolve around it.

As long as it's not handled in the same way R&R's was, I really think it would help the show out alot.

the members of the gang are not in their mid twenties anymore.. they are in their early thirties.. it is only natural for them to remain close to reality and start acting thier age. they cn only have so many funny chandler and Joey scenes without it going old, and pathetic. Don;t get me wrong.. I loved those great episodes of days gone by.. but the characters need to grow up.. that is why relationships occur, people mature and fall in love etc.. now.. if people don't want Monica and Chandler together.. that is fine.. but ask yourself this.. would you want them to be permanently in a long-scale serious relationship with an outsider ? cos surely one of six or two of six deserves happiness. any outsiders always get critiscised by us lot (people on ATF), most of disliked Emily and Janine, and some people dislike Elizabeth. so.. should they just never be in love ?? that they should be permanent loosers ?? that is getting a little pathetic..

anyone got any better solutions ??

Helena wrote:

I agree with the idea that they need to act their age, but the problem is that they really aren't. If the argument is that C&M should stay together because they're in the stage of life where people settle down, then I won't argue that because when I'm 30, I would like to be settled down. But while a C&M marriage would bring them into a more realistic stage of life, the other 4 are showing very few signs of growing up. Pheobe is still doing things some teenagers would do(no offense to any teenagers reading this, but there is a difference in what's acceptable conduct for adults). Rachel has a career, but for some reason, still lives with a roommate instead of living on her own. Plus she really doesn't seem to show much interest in getting married and starting a family. Ross used to want to be married and have a family, but now even though I would still suspect that's his goal, it's never mentioned and his actions contradict that goal. He has basically spent two years going in circles and I suspect that will continue for some time. Joey, as far as being a grown-up and acting his age, is not even close. I don't think I need to site examples of that.

So if a C&M marriage brings them into reality, then what about the rest of them? If I was married, I would definately not spend nearly as much time with my friends as I had before, not to mention in a group of six, drinking coffee at Central Perk like I had done while single. If I was C&M and got married, I would move away and start a family and a new life. Having them living in the same apartment and still hanging out with the rest of the gang would be rather rediculous.

As for how this is handled and its effects to the show, it seems apparent that the writers are going to make a change with C&M's relationship. Either they'll get married, or they'll break up(when I say break up, I mean for about 10-15 episodes and then they get back together to make their fans happy). If they break up, the show can take some time off from focusing on the C&M relationship and then focus on them finding their way back to each other. They can also use this to find that dynamic that's been missing this season and show other members of the group growing up a little. If they get married, you'll essentially have C&M together in their storylines and the other 4 mixing and matching in the others. Unless of course the writers decide that C&M will interact as they have the past two seasons with the others, except they have rings on their fingers. I think that would be terribly unrealistic. If you think the C&J dynamic has been lost, as I have, then you'll basically force it to extinction with a marriage. I guess what I'm saying is that if C&M get married and grow up, then the others need to grow up too. Pheobe needs to find some direction in her life. Joey needs a career. Ross and Rachel need to confront their past and decide once and for all if they're gonna get back together or move on for good. Right now, their relationship is borderline juvenile because they never address the issues that come up like Jill or their feelings, but instead just drop it until something inevedably comes up again and then we start the circle over again. Given the fact that I only think we'll have one more season, I don't have enough faith in the writers to believe that they can handle a C&M marriage and how it relates to the rest of the group. I think they would somehow manage to have them married without them or the rest of the group growing up at all. Given that prospect, I would think a break-up would help the show much more than a marriage that isn't handled responsibly. I think if the show is to stay funny and fresh next year, a break-up is a must because while I would like to see the characters grow up a bit, it probably wouldn't be all that amusing to watch.

I hope my thoughts came across clearly, but I'm not sure. Its' one of those things where I have everything clear in my head, but I don't know how well it comes across in print.

Jay

HelenaJ. Robinson

Dear Jay

You havew certainly made some good points I'm a teenager. but a rather normal one... and I act like I'm in my late twenties anyway. so I don;t count.

I think the writers have written themselves into a corner. a C+M marriage would please some people, but others would hate it. the same with a C+M break up

above all, to keep Phoebe as a fresh characters whom we all love, she needs to grow up, but still keep her lovely charm.] and Joey.. he's really become such a lovely guy.. it would be a shame to see him mature to much.. but he'll have to oneday *sniff nostalgically* they are all gonna grow up

But you know the writers of this show are really clever I bet the finale will be a situation we completely haven't thought of... I'm constantly wondering.. I pray there will be a spoiler for 623... I'm just hoping it is a) good for C+M b) good for the show !!

I guess you have a point.. ok so Friends is not so good now that C+M are happy.. but it was soooo good last season (season 5) that it cannto always be good. I still find it hilairous. but I understand many don't. the thing is, are you wanting a permanent C+M break up ? cos that really would be sad. as I said before.. the show might as well be saying "there is no hope for love on this show". a) how will they break up ? if you want it so much.. there has to be a way of doing it, they cannot do any "take a break" thing, as it's being going on for 2 years almost now, and they live together. they cannto do the "cheating on them" thing, cos that (in my opinion) was really awful.. plus it's been done.. and the R/R fans suffered for it. Now.. if C+M were to break up. would it be a sort of "things are going to fast" or where they have a tremendous argument ?? because if it were the latter.. I don;t see them as being friends as more.. I don;t think they could possibly be friends if they argued enough to break up. and if you suggest the kids thing.. I don't think Chandler is so silly to have known a woman for approaching 10 years, and known she always wnated kids, and then have a relationship with her for 2 years, then decide he does not want kids. so if a C+M breakup will help the show.. how should it happen? and should it be permanent ? *remember they are in their thirties now.. not twenties.. the characters can't be single loosers (who were very funny) as they used to be. We want them to deal with "grown up things" like marriage and parenthood.. otherwise it just isn;t going to be realistic.

this is just my thoughts, what do you guys think ??

I was trying to figure out a possible plot as well, and this is what I came up with:

Chandler proposes to Monica, and she says "yes" (yay!). They decide to go to the Geller's to tell them the happy news and ask Ross and Elizabeth to come along. Ross thinks it's great, 'cause this means that his parents won't focus so much on him and Elizabeth. After all, she *is* very young, and what will his mom say when she finds out that he is dating this girl who used to be his student? No more Mr Perfect!

When the four of them arrive at the Geller's, Richard is there too (after all, he is one of their best friends). Chandler becomes jealous right away, even though Monica assures him that there's nothing to worry about. She even flashes her very expensive ring to prove her point to Chandler, but he spends the rest of the night sulking.

Richard and Monica start talking, and have a great time reminiscing of the time when they were together. Elizabeth meets Ross's parents, and now the hilarious Judy Geller can start comparing her two kids. One of them got involved with a guy twice her age, and the other one went cradle robbing.... LOL..

USA Today is a *very* reliable source - they were the first to break Reese Witherspoon's appearance, IIRC. They probably got the info in a press release.

Not necessarily. Although i'm still not sure they'll ever put closure on the R&R plot, I think Richard can only advance the M&C plot to a new level.

No, it says that Tom Selleck is going to be appearing in the finale. Let's not jump to conclusions *just* yet - while the laws of logic would suggest that there *will* be an S7, that's still not officially been announced, and until such a time I will assume that this is the last season.

USA Today is reasonably reliable. It is a reputable national newspaper. It isn't a very *intellectual* newspaper, but the fluff it prints is likely to be right.

Hey, everybody, calm down. We don't even know what Richard is going to do yet. This does NOT mean the C&M romance is over...

Now why the hell do *I* have to be the C&M cheerer-upper?

thanks so much Adeline for your words of reassurance.. that is a good point... surely Monica loves Chandler too much.. and remember the Richard problem in TOW in Vegas "he looks great, but I didn;t feel anything for him" but Chandler got quite jealous quite quickly.. he might jump to conclusions if he saw Monica and Richard talking...

Hmm, if he did do you really think she'd go back to him, after being with Chandler for so long? I don't think she would, necessarily, after all Chandler's now "the love of her life". otherwise I'd think she's just.. just.. a meanie! :) [I apologise, I'm just in quite a happy mood today, I'm all smiley :)]

Hopefully with Richard back on the scene C&M might re-assess their relationship. NOT breakup, necessarily, but re-evaluate what they want. And maybe Monica would quit pushing Chandler around, heh :)

I really think bringing Tom Selleck back is a sign that this is gonna be more than C&M re-assessing their relationship. I don't expect Monica to choose Richard, but I do think it will mean serious trouble for C&M. Trouble that can't be fixed in a short period of time. If you look at this from Tom Selleck's point of view, he wouldn't be a guest star unless BKC really thought he was needed. Richard wouldn't have to be seen to force C&M to re-assess their relationship(ex.- TOW Vegas), but he would need to be seen to really cause serious trouble to them.

That's actually a very good point Jay. Richard would not have to physically appear(like last season) unless the storyline really required it. there to cause the first *real* problem for them.

Well well...the writers managed to surprise me. I *never* saw this one coming..but I must say, I always did like Richard. :) This ought to be interesting...and maybe we'll see a bit of tension with Monica and Chandler. We never know though, it could be a way for Monica to make it obvious that she's over him and in love with Chandler. Either way, I'll actually look really forward to watching.

Adriana Ross: I don't know if anything is ever going to happen with us again, ever, but I don't want to know that it never could. So I stopped it, and she got mad and broke my projector. -TOW Chandler Can't Cry

Why is everyone so excited/upset about Tom's appearence? It's not like he is going to wind up with Monica as a regular on the show. The only possible impact he could have would be to somehow create enough havoc in ChanMons' relationship to give the writers a serious enough excuse to break up these two? C'mon, that's as likely as the writers breaking up R&R and never resolving their relationsh...Uh, hold on a second...

He doesn't have to be. I, personally, just really enjoyed his character and am excited about him appearing again.

The only possible

That's very likely. And even if it isn't, as I said before, I just like his character. I seriously do believe the writers have the opportunity to go somewhere with this though. Of all things that entered my mind as to what could stop Chander and Monica's "perfect" relationship, I never thought about Richard returning because I didn't think it was likely. I was proved wrong. I like it when i'm surprised like that.

I still don't have faith that it will ever be resolved.

Of course they have an emotional investment--so do I. I wanted them to get together since I first saw TOW the Flashback, back in '96. But it's an investment I'm willing to risk for the sake of the show itself. Unfortunately, I've disliked as many of the C & M plots this season as I have liked. That's a shame, because I adored them together last year. Many of Chandler's lines have become cheesy ("We're a couple of couples!" and "It's like that old saying--have sex, eat some cake!" grate on my nerves every time I hear them...and you know how much I love Chandler.) I suppose what it comes down to is that I like Chandler more than I like Mondler...but they don't have to break up in order for that little problem to be fixed.

enjoyed Richard Burke. I do not

I like Richard, too--hopefully they won't screw his character up, too. I don't imagine he *will* stay very long, but I'll be glad to see him, no matter the reason for his appearance.

While I'm thinking about it, I have another question that anyone who reads spoilers will know--is there some reason why people seem to think Ross & Elizabeth won't last other than the show's past history of Friends' non-Friends love interests abruptly doing something completely out of character and disappearing off the face of the earth? Just curious--I've only skimmed the spoilers, and I like Elizabeth so far.

Thanks,

There hasn't been any mention of Ross and Elizabeth breaking up in any of the spoilers. We do know that Rachel ditches Bruce Willis's character. But nothing with regard to Ross and Elizabeth.

Claire AbrahamLauran Mitchell

No, actually, all they really need to do is let the two characters have storylines with somebody other than each other more often. For some reason, whenever there's a couple on this batch of writers feel they can't let the couple do anything but be in love. That's the same unnecessary thing that happened to Ross and Rachel.

There are three reasons I can think of.

1. Some people are still stuck on the idea of Ross and Rachel getting back together and hate the very idea of Elizabeth out of hand. I'm actually not in this category at all. I think Elizabeth is a doll, and she's done wonders for making Ross likeable again.

2. The ethical problems of Ross' job and Elizabeth's age really do freak some people out. Also, Elizabeth's father hates Ross and is inclined to turn him in.

3. Romances with outside characters never last more than six episodes! But you knew that. :-)

In article ,

have

I wouldn't have a problem with Chandler and Monica (or Ross and Rachel) being in love all the time if every episode were as good as, say, TOW Ross Can't Flirt (my current favorite). They were very sweet to each other the whole time--even their little discussion about men vs. women flirting was done in in a calm manner, and the rest of the other characters were given equal time.

I agree--he's very sweet when he's in love. I hope if the relationship does end soon, it's not because of anything Rachel's done. I'm very tired of that storyline repeating itself over and over again, and I think that's what turns some viewers off of R & R--it's so predictable. 1)Rachel doesn't want Ross. 2)Ross finds someone else. 3)Rachel wants Ross. 4)Rachel does something to harm relationhip between Ross and Significant Other. 5)Ross and S.O. break up. 6)Rachel and Ross don't get back together after all.

freak

to

I think this would be the worst-case scenario. Not only would Ross lose Elizabeth, he would lose his job again, too. I don't really want to see him on rage pills again.

That would be very unfortunate in this case. I would really like it if Elizabeth became a semi-regular. It's not as if she has to make an appearance *every* episode. What do you think? Too much to ask?

Ok, what most likely happens is that richard shows up at the wedding ala rachel and at the part where the priest says "if anyone objects" he gets up and objects

On the other side ross and rachel take their two new victims to the wedding as guests. In a reversal of TOW the beach, ross makes rachel choose who she wants to be with

Joey of course finds his nose twin, and tries to get him interested in showbiz, and phoebe finds that the mom she thought was dead and cremated is actually alive

I think the problem may be that they just don't have that many ideas for good interaction between the couple. If we only saw the couple as a couple when the idea was really good, we might only have a quarter of the storylines about the couple - but they'd be effective. No frantic come-ons during a bad head cold.

I'm afraid this is my prediction: when Rachel breaks up with
Elizabeth's father, which we know for sure is going to happen, he will
retaliate by telling the school about Ross and Elizabeth and Ross will
get the ax. Then Elizabeth will suddenly prove to be only interested in
the danger and she won't want an ordinary unemployed man, so she'll dump
him. Ross' big cliffhanger can be that he has no job and no girl and
everybody wonders if he's going to succumb to rage again. Hahahaha
isn't that funny? Based on how poorly the writers treat Ross, I am
braced for this to be what they do. I am hoping that my prediction is
wrong.

Don't ask me. You are preaching to the choir here. I'd be perfectly happy if Ross and Elizabeth became a long-term thing, especially after she transfers to another school and turns 21. :-)

Claire Abraham wrote:

Since you have a prediction, I'll add one that I have. I'm guessing that since Rachel dumped Elizabeth's dad, Elizabeth will be a b*tch towards her. Ross will be caught in the middle and will eventually stand up for Rachel which would cause his relationship with Elizabeth to end. My hope would be that Ross would then confront Rachel about the fact that, even though indirectly, Rachel has just caused Ross to lose another relationship. I have a feeling that Ross risking his job might disappear from the writer's heads and it won't end up being an issue. Of course my main worry is that it will be an issue and he will lose his job. Then next year, Ross's big comedic plot will be his search for a new job a'la Joey. He'll probably end up working at the coffee house. Can't you just see the humor in that(sarcasm)????

I really don't see any way for Ross's relationship with Elizabeth to end without having something to do with Rachel and her dumping of Paul. Unless, of course the writers decide to change Elizabeth's character drastically and we find out she's a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Or that she shoots singing birds.
