When Rachel was moving out Phoebe let her move in with her because her
roommate was away until December 26th. But she's still there and they made
no mention of the roommate delaying or cancelling her return.
Surely they should try and eliminate silly errors like this.

Dozens. My favorite is the three or four times Rachel has met Chandler for the first time and never recognizes him. Yes, it's very sloppy, but they don't care, and there's nothing we can do about it.
At least, with this one, we can just say that Denise was a put-on, one of Phoebe's ditzy inventions.

That just because you're not thinking realistically. Imagine going to a friends house when you were 16 for dinner, and theres a guy there, yeah you meet him, learn his name, but you don't really talk to him as such. A year later you just about remember meeting him last year. Theres not a chance in hell he would have been at any future Gellar thanksgivings after the toe incident, so Rachel doesn't see him again. Years later both look quite different, why should they recognise each other in that bar? Monica could have said "you remember Chandler" but it was an awkward moment so she probably didn't want to. I just think a year on when they meet again she probably recognises him and he recognises her, but theres no need to say anything, since their previous meeting was quite embarassing (for him). After a short time an off camera conversation takes place. "Hey were you the guy who was at Monica's house for thanksgivings." "Yes". Explained :)

true.. but,. i don;t think it was so much because it was Chamdler (although i wouldn't mind fantasising about any of the Friends men especially about him and MLB) (although I don;t) I actually think it was just because he was the next man she saw...

Perhaps, instead of being bothered by continuity errors, we should regard it as something funny and make it into a big game as to which continuity errors are the funniest/most obvious/easiest to avoid/most essential to further a really good joke or episode.
I'm afraid I really don't buy the idea that Rachel didn't know Chandler because she dismissed him as Ross' Geeky Friend. Rachel should have vividly remembered Chandler as That Geeky Guy Who Dissed Monica So She Cut His Toe Off Before Dinner And I Had To Help Look For It EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! That's pretty memorable stuff, even if you are a self-absorbed little twit. BUT, I WILL let the writers off the hook as they wrote The Most Unimportant Continuity Error Which, By Existing, Allowed the Writing of a Really Good Episode.
This, by the way, is why the Chandler/Rachel meeting thing is my favorite continuity error. It isn't important, it facilitated two excellent episodes, and it damages neither character.
This is, as opposed to Serious Destruction of Important Character Personality for Cheap and Unimportant Gag Which Wasn't Even Funny, which also happens.

MC: Well, the only flashback where Chandler and Rachel ACTUALLY meet, is the Thanksgiving One. And he comes across as such a geek that she probably quickly dismisses him as Monica's brother's friend. (And she barely acknowledges Ross, don't forget.) In the other flashback, years later, he's just some doofus in a bar.
I think this allows some license in their first REAL meeting, in the pilot. "

Plus, I never believed that Denise actually existed. I though that Phoebe made her up since she's the only one (except Ross) without a roomate.
