The episode: 309-TOW the football.

The scene: Monica, Rachel en Phoebe are in the kitchen preparing the Thanksgiving dinner, while Ross, Chandler and Joey are watching football in the livingroom. Rachel is working on a pie or cake.

Monica: ".....and Rachel, you want to put the marshmallows in concentric
                circles."
Rachel: "No Mon, YOU want to put the marshmallows in concentric circles.
                I want to do this!"

Then Rachel shoves a small marshmallow up Monica's right nostril. After Monica blows it out of her nose, she says: "Every year!!"

So what does she mean by that? This is only Rachel's second Thanksgiving with the others, so who else could have done something like that? Ross? Their parents? Chandler? Phoebe? Joey?

Well, then I have something else about this football-episode. It's about the dutch girl who watches the game of football the friends play. Though she has been given a dutch name: Marga, it's my opinion that her accent is more east-european than dutch. Does anyone agree?

I thought it was rather annoying, maybe they should have used an actual dutch girl to play the part. Actually, Joey pronounces her name better than she does herself, at least he gets the dutch 'g' out correctly......

And that from a dumb Italian-Amercian with a brain the size of the pea. :-) But he does get it right.

I can imagine that Americans have a very hard time on this. I once saw an American stand-up comedian explain why the Dutch speak with this 'g'. It's because in older times when there still weren't any dikes here, the rivers used to flood often. Through that the people had common colds all the time and because of that they sniffed and drawed up their noses, which sounds like the Dutch 'g'.

Do you know why Dutch people belong to the taller ones? The same stand-up comm. had an explanation: When there weren't any dikes, and the rivers flooded, the short ones drowned. Only the tall ones could keep there nose above the water. :-[)

I've checked the end credits. Her name is Susanna Voltaire. Her surname sounds French, but her first name hasn't to be French. Perhaps it's more American. So I can think of the following possabilities:

- she's French - she's an American actress with French roots, so that she can speak with a foreign accent - she's Canadian

Another thing: The name of the roll she played was spelled Margha at the end credits (I'm not entirely sure about this, I too had some problems with the subtitles.) Of course it's a name, and names can be spelled any way you want, but most of the times this name is spelled Marga.

If she's French or French-Canadian, she's really good at hiding her accent. Voltaire is a French name, but it's possible she grew up in another country like I did. I grew up in Canada and English was my first language, so I don't have a Dutch accent when I speak English. But come to think of it Voltaire could also be an East-European name, like you pointed out before.

Maybe the name in the end credits is just misspelt.

Who knows? You can't expect too many Americans to know much about our country, like they don't expect us to know all the US states from memory.
