TOW The Stripper Cries--haven't seen Fat Monica in a while

Looks like the Friends writers are pulling out all the stops for their last few
episodes.   They just had a flashback episode with Fat Monica, old-nose Rachel,
Mr. Kotter-hair Ross and Flock-of-Seagulls-hair Chandler in it, something they
haven't done since the S5 Thanksgiving episode.   While not nearly as funny as
the flashback episode 5 years ago, it's certainly better than most of the other
ones this season.   The funny '80s references were a nice touch, reminded me of
scenes from "The Wedding Singer."

Courteney Cox must have had fun putting on the fat suit again; must have brought back some fond memories.

She was 'fat' - suited up in The One That Could Have Been Eps. 1 & 2 (615,616) - yet another flashback story - but comfortably the best of series 6.....actually no - now that I've just double checked the episode names both series 6 and 7 did have other highlight episodes.

So why did series 8 & 9 and the first half of 10 blow such chunks? <sigh>

actually, that wasn't a flashback, it was an "alternate" present. They were all imagining how different their lives would be, if for example, Monica hadn't lost all the weight, Rachel married Barry, etc.

Question: how did the fat suit work? I suppose the torso and limbs are just worn on, but I've never figured out her face. And I think Fat Monica gives you a sense of how funny CCA can be if not perhaps for the writing and characteristation.

The face, I imagine, was done by padding. I'm not entirely sure how it's applied, but special face padding can be used to round the face out. Assuming it was somehow fitted in the cheeks via the mouth, it could also explain why Fat Monica's voice sounds slighty different than regular Monica's.

I thought they tended to do that sort of thing by gluing pieces of rubber (or whatever) to the outside. They make it flesh colored, and then put makeup over the whole face, so it looks like it fits. Certainly, I've seen snippets of them doing this sort of thing for alien type creatures.

There's a little thing on this on one of the special features of the season 6 DVD. It's just really short, but they show a cast of Courteney's head, and how the rubber stuff sticks around it. They also said that they had to get her to wear a scarf in a lot of the scenes because the neck part was really hard to get right.
