The cast of hit show "Friends" have been given a record breaking $2 million each to make a reunion special that takes place one year after the programme's finale.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer all agreed to make the single 90-minute special, which will be filmed right after shooting finishes on the last ever episode of the Manhattan-based comedy.

A spokesperson for television network NBC says, "We knew it would be tough to get the Friends stars together again once they'd gone their separate ways."

"So we put an offer on the table to persuade them to film the reunion right away."

In the special one-off viewers will see the New York sixsome come together for Thanksgiving dinner, which will be screened in conjunction with the holiday in America during November 2004.

My personal opinion.... They should have a "Friends" movie every year catching us up on the life & times of the characters But unless there is big money in it for all involved its not too likely that will happen.

Yep. I don't think we'll ever see a 'Friends' movie. But, still, it would be great, great indeed.

Only if the original production and writing teams are involved. Otherwise it would be utter dreck.

What's interesting about this preunion is that it will presumably involve the entire production staff of the show. So unusually for such things, it actually has a chance of being reasonably good.

Unless they do it like last week's ep.

Yep. But, if you have a movie that is absolutely crap, you can simply not consider it. But if you have it, and it is good, it would be great. Let's they make a movie, or even tons of them. I would consider only the movies I like. :)

Yep. Let's hope.

Well, I loved that ep big time. I only didn't like Ross' storyline, but Monica & Chandler were, IMVeryHO great. Matthew Perry was incredible. Rachel's back, with that tee, WHOA. Joey was damn funny.

likely that

Damn good idea though - let them know! It's amazing how the best ideas sometimes get overlooked until the 'obvious' (or not so obvious) is pointed out!

I was going to suggest that. If they did ten of these special episodes, they could keep it going for ten years. But then I realized at 2 million each, nobody would likely want to pay that much for something that would likely see a diminishing interest over the span. We could even imagine that some years down the road, despite having the annual episodes filmed, the network would decide not to air them, rather like regular run shows that get cancelled before we see all the episodes.

The obvious solution would have been to do the annuals this year, instead of this season. Remember, they were going to end the series at the end of last season, so if they'd put the money for this year into the annuals, they would not have spent more money.

This is great news!

About that movie idea though: if they DID do that, does that mean that all the audience laughter and such would not be featured. Because I don't think it would be quite the same without it.

I hope they'll wait for this episode with making the European dvd box. Or make a special dvd with loads and loads of extras.

I don't care. I bought the American box sets. :) They're cheaper, they're better.

That would be great.

Yeah, I know. I wish I hadn't started buying the european discs a couple of years ago. But some of my friends, who come watch the episodes with me, really need the Dutch subtitles. Well, maybe I'm too considerate. :-)

Yes, you are. :) I live in Italy, where English is a mysterious language. A lot of my friends are not able to watch Friends in English (not even able to utter a complete sentence in English) and they do not even care (here they dub everything). But I have some friends whose English is good enough. I do watch Friends alone, no subtitles when I download an episode, but I watch the episodes on DVD with a friend, and he has improved a lot, and he's now able not only to enjoy Friends in English (with English subtitles), but even to enjoy a book in English. I don't buy Italian DVDs. They are expensive. I only buy American DVDs or R2 UK. When my friends ask me if I bought new movies, I tell 'em the titles, and if they ask me if I can lend it to them, I tell them that there is no Italian, and they are kinda upset. Who cares, they should be learning. And if by any chance I had a movie in English with Italian subtitles, but without the Italian audio, it would not be enough. Dubbed, or nothing.

Why would so many people around here believe this when the majority has seen or read transcripts of the Oprah interview?

Don't you remember Kevin Bright's comment? "We promise you one thing: we'll never do a reunion movie"

*grin* I'm the one who transcribed the Oprah interview and even I believed it. Especially because it was on the radio news here in Holland, the day Sebastiano posted it here on the group.

I guess it's because the producers/actors told us repeatedly after season 5 (and 6, 7 etc...) that the current season would be the last. And the show lasted until the 10th season. What difference would it make if they made just one extra episode. :-)

Or just wishful thinking. We always have hope, as Sebastiano said.

Not that I'm saying this would necessarily be the case here, but sometimes the "big-cheeses" might just say that they wouldn't do something, in order to try and distract people from the fact that they actually ARE doing it.

This happened in another fave show of mine, very recently. The producer was insisting to the fans that the rumours about the return of an old cast member were not true in any way. But then a few weeks later, a TV promo confirmed it - then the producer admitted it.

Just my 2 cents...
